KeVaughn Allen to ask UF for release reopen recruitment

Allen is listed as a 2 guard, Tyndall was one of the few hoping to make him a full time PG

True, but wasn't that his attraction to Tennessee to begin with? The option to play PG full-time, and a wide-open lane to immediate playing time?

I'm not sure he has the same affinity for Tennessee without those assurances.

Yes it was, and I agree, I'm not sure we are a serious player here for him.

I'd say part of the reason they will take longer is so that they can keep the good players they have. It's a pretty stupid rule honestly but a rules a rule

Foley can release the players from their NLI, he doesn't have to wait on a new coach.

The last genuine, true PG we recruited as a HS senior and played out his career at Tennessee was CJ Watson.

-Trae Golden was a SG playing PG.
-Bobby Maze, JUCO.
-Melvin Goins, JUCO.
-A. Barton was a grad transfer.
-D. Thompson was more of a combo, but lasted only a year.
-R. Smith only lasted two years.
-Daniel West never played and transferred.
-W. Washpun played sparingly and transferred after a year.

Going back to before CJ...
-Jon Higgins was a combo guard, but similar to Golden, he filled the role admirably.
-Thaydeus Holden, JUCO.
-Harris Walker was a true PG, but was dismissed after his sophomore year.

Then you get to Tony Harris, who was a shoot first PG, but a PG all the same IMO.

So, since 1997 (unless I neglected to mention someone), we have recruited two true PGs as HS seniors, who have actually finished their careers at Tennessee. Two in 18 years...wow.

I was actually about to ask "when was the last time we got a true PG out of high school and not JUCO" and thought CJ watson? But figured it was insane to think it was that long.

Well thought out assessment. I'm excited that Barnes looks to be changing this trend.

Jordan Howell was a true point guard.

I always forget about Howell because he wasn't originally a Tennessee signee. He also played more as a SG at UT until later in his career when he played PG out of necessity. That is how I remember it.

Darius Thompson was a true pg. He was always looking to distribute. He had some of the best assists here since Watson. 2.4 apg in only 16.8 min. 2.56 a-to ratio. He would have been good last year as our pg.
