I heard Davis on Full Ride this week & they asked about what happened to Vanderbilt. He replied “they have NIL issues. One of their best players 2 yrs ago is now at Texas as their best player. One of So Car best players was at Vandy as was Wright at LSU last year. Put those 3 on Vandy, & they’re a tournament team”.

I know people will say “Vanderbilt has billionaires as alums” & they do but those people have never consistently donated big to athletics there. Just look at their facilities. Ingram family has done more than any.

As I posted in a different thread it’s a weird situation at Vandy. The “athletic department” owes the university millions of dollars. One reason Vandy did away with the AD is because it owes the university money for the scholarships they give out. So if alumni just give donations to the AD line item, the question is do they use this money for athletics or to pay the university for the debt that grows every year. I think that’s one reason they get donations, mainly from the Ingrams, for specific projects but not just for athletics in general.

High brow academics using athletics to fill their coffers. Saw it with the Ivy Leagues. Athletics are a tool or simple diversion. Vandy could not care less as long as the money keeps rolling in. Fine by me, but they're a pretty darned expensive buy-in game. Better than an open date I guess.

Vandy is sitting on their status as an original member of the SEC who can't be expelled. They have decided to take the football revenue splits and use them to cover the other sports, not taking any risks in the process. It's a guaranteed trip to the bank each year. They have decided academics is first in Nashville and they will do whatever is minimally necessary to cash that annual SEC check. The only facilities they are planning to update are football and basketball operation centers, baseball field upgrade and some golf and tennis upgrades. The folly of their decision is soon a new league of power schools will be formed and they will not be invited to join.

They are changing. The question is….can they do it fast enough. I’ve always liked Vandy as my hometown school. Even though I bleed orange.

This must be referring to the not as famous as myself basketball coach, I never said anything about Candy. Well, nothing you should put in print or say around ladies and children.

Vandy is more about academics than athletics. It has something of an Ivy League ethic. That's not to say that it doesn't have alums that care about their football and basketball teams, it does of course--but they are far fewer in number and a lot less crazy than typical SEC fans and boosters. I could be wrong about this, but it could be that Vandy simply isn't keen on getting into the crass business of throwing money at high-school prospects and getting into bidding/bribery wars for 17-year-olds and their money-hungry parents. The Ivies certainly aren't doing that--and the more that major-college football and basketball spins irrationally out of control, the more I, for one, have come to respect the Ivy athletics ethic.

Maybe their billionaires are turned off by that Vandy whistler ahole and are waiting for him to die before they donate.

So they leach off the SEC Athletic money to upgrade their Academics/Research.

Sounds like they maybe the real winners of the SEC and not that program in Tuscaloosa.

Im torn. It’s nice to have that guaranteed W every year but the conference really needs to get rid of their welfare joke of an AD.

Vanderbilt football has had just one winning conference record in the past 41 seasons . Just two winning conference records since 1960. NIL isn't about to fix their problems

I get what you’re saying but… why would you go to college for any reason other than the degree?

There I got a degree and I got a degree from insert name. Some are just paper and some coke with immediate prestige. The name Vandy holds a ton of wait in every area but football. They should be in the Ivy League but the SEC money is like cocaine.

Agree but they are very negligent.

Stanford is a far superior University to Vanderbilt and yet they have had top 10 teams and won the Pac12 in Football. So Vandy could do better.

Even Duke, Tulane, Northwestern, Cal-Berkeley, Notre Dame, etc. have all done better and they are higher academic focused institutions.

Vandy is higher than ND and Tulane and close to the others except Stanford. Vandy is 18th and Stanford is to 5. ND is 19th.

Place Vandy in the PAC-16 and their record is just like Stanford. Stanford and Cal would be 6-6 at best in the sec.

Candy is negligible though. They just don’t care.

The years Stanford were good, they would still beat most in the SEC. They were a top ten team and even won big in Bowl Games.

Vandy, would not have been good in any league other than maybe the two seasons with James Franklin.
