At one point I was fixing to say something in this thread about the people celebrating a loss before the game had ended, but then I remembered Kentucky has no defense and all Ole Miss had to do was decide to start making their shots again. Not sure what's crazier how bad Kentucky is at defense...or that Ole Miss let them cut a 27 point lead to single digits at one point
Let's have a live look at Rupp Rafters to see how they're handling thisView attachment 719530
I’d say Kentucky is on a different level when it comes to blue bloods in basketball. That’s the Mecca with their fans and Rupp arena imo. Everybody else is shooting for second.I lived in Chapel Hill for 4 years, and I still live in NC.
I have traveled to Southern Indiana all my life at the holidays, many of those trips when there was a UK/IU or Louisville/UK basketball game scheduled close in time.
Having watched the UNC/Duke rivalry up close, all I can say is that those fans can only dream of that game meaning as much to their fans as a UK/IU or UK/Louisville game means to theirs. Those Christmas matchups between UK and Louisville are electric.
With NIL and the portal, the days of Kentucky (and more importantly their fans) being able to put their noses up at everyone else in the conference are over.I’d say Kentucky is on a different level when it comes to blue bloods in basketball. What I was talking about had nothing to do with their fans putting up their noses. I was describing my experience at a UK game versus any other venue I’ve been to. There is something special about it and it has to be experienced first hand. It felt more like going to church than even going to church. That experience might change with the things you’ve mentioned but as far as basketball is concerned I don’t think Kentucky will be left behind. On a side note, there is a reason we have a “Lost Again” thread for Kentucky and nobody else. With NIL and the portal, the days of Kentucky (and more importantly their fans) being able to put their noses up at everyone else in the conference are over.
Things have changed. Their fans are in for a long period of denial, cope, and ultimately acceptance.
Gone too are the days of them expecting to dominate the conference every year.
The reason we have a " Kentucky lost" thread is because they have been our biggest in conference basket rivals for many years. You ask any Kentucky fan how bad they hate losing to Tennessee and it will confirm this. Other than maybe Louisville, they'd rather lose to anyone but us. They feeling is mutual. Even if they are crappy for ten straight years, we'd still probably have this thread. They make threads about us ALL the time, so they don't necessarily need a single one. What I was talking about had nothing to do with their fans putting up their noses. This post is exactly why I started the threadThe reason we have a " Kentucky lost" thread is because they have been our biggest in conference basket rivals for many years. They may continue to be our biggest rival just because of history, but the days of them being able to pretend their above other programs in the SEC ( or country for that matter) are over.
Like I said, things have changed.
I don't know what you mean " will (not) by left behind",
but what I was saying is they will not be dominant year after year anymore.
They have a really big fan base, so I wasn't saying they are going to go into obscurity or something.
