Even in down years we were still a football school as far as where most money is made and fan attendance. Through history our football team has been the main draw. That doesn’t mean we can’t be great in other sports. I want them all to succeed but football is Tennessee’s main draw and attraction. Nothing wrong with that. Tennessee fans follow all their teams better than most. GBO!

With all our men and women teams having this positive momentum I hope we start winning some national championships. It's been awhile except for Rugby and Dance and cheer. 😁

Stoops has built a solid football program at Kentucky. He has them consistently in the top half of the East and playing in bowl games. They are very solid on both lines and have had some really good players at the some of the skill positions but haven’t lined up a team with really good players at all the skill positions. If they could land a really good QB and a set of receivers to go with their run game, they could be a real threat to Georgia IMO. I just don’t think Stoops or the Kentucky program is perceived as a championship caliber program by the blue chip QBs and receivers so they end up with mostly good, but not great players at those positions.
It will more likely be Stoops successor who will take them to that next level - or return them to mediocrity.

I am late to the party, but what a stupid thing for Calipari to say about the school when their football team is experiencing unprecedented success.
He was not incorrect in the facts, but what a terrible way to kick some s**t up for no reason at all other than you are jealous the football team is taking a little more attention than normal.

A little off subject but - -
There seem to be an awful lot of Ky threads on VOLNATION lately. Why the preoccupation with the cats? I am not opposed to information about opponents, but our Ky preoccupation seems a little excessive. What's the deal??

If you were doing your job well, Calipari, you wouldn't need to mention it at all. Because, as you implied, the football team is at its absolute peak limit winning 10 games in a season. Your b-ball lads ought to be able to outperform that. If, you know, you were still a championship program.

KY is and always been a basketball school. Getting better at football. Don’t see a 10 win season this year. Think Levis will be good.

I do think Stoops is a descent football coach. Let him play Bama every year & see where he’s at? He is a good O & D line coach. See losses to TN, FL, GA, possible SC & Louisville. Calipari is a snake oil salesman. Should win a championship. Too many one & dones.

Not sure if this old tale is true but either way the story sums up Kentucky sports. It's always made me smile 😁

Bear Bryant:
“I have this picture in my den of [Oklahoma football coach] Bud Wilkinson laughing at a banquet over a story I told about that time we won the SEC championship at Kentucky, the only time a Kentucky football team ever has,” Bryant said. “[Adolph] Rupp had won it in basketball for the umpteenth time and they gave him a great big blue Cadillac with whitewall tires, and I said at this banquet, ‘And here’s what I got.’ And I held up this little old cigarette lighter. Well, when the thing came to a head I remembered that cigarette lighter, and I knew I was too far behind to ever catch up.”
