I'd say Kendrick is probably smarter and more hard nosed.. Richmond is probably quicker,faster and generally more athletic.

If a 5* LT can't win the start over someone like Kendrick, then he was never a 5* to begin with.

How you going to start thread with question, and not give your answer? :) Who you got?

I think they will find a way to have Kendrick at guard, because of his problem with pass blocking, unless Richmond just is not learning scheme for some reason, which I have not heard.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see either one starting against Appy State. If I had to guess, I'd probably go with Richmond but it sounds like Kendrick isn't going to hand him the job. I was interested to see what others thought.

Size was never really his problem. To be a good LT you have to be big, strong, and fast. Think about the times that Barnett just speed rushes past the LT, that is what he'll be dealing with in the SEC

Not trying to say Kendrick is every going to be a great LT or anything but I do think many on here are too quick to dismiss him going into his RS JR season. With the step forward we saw from Kerbyson last year (going from a piss-poor RT/LT in 2014 to an All-SEC LT in 2015), I'm going to let things play out and let the coaches make their own evaluations before I write off a bigger, faster OT in Kendrick.

Bigger, faster than who? If you're talking about Kerbyson, I see the bigger...don't know how the faster was calibrated.

Richmond so he can seal the deal on the top recruit in the country, think it might be a smart move plus Kendrick will see plenty of playing time.

This is such a good problem to have. And next year, 5* Trey Smith enters into the fray (along with Locklear and Tucker) and the year after that, 5* Cade Mays. It's also great to be able to RS freshmen OL again! I hope Akers and Chandler are paying attention.

Kendrick is clearly more athletic than Kerbyson and better suited to playing OT. Sorry that there's no way to quantify that for you though other than the times I've watched them play and practice.

Until Kendrick has a pro day and his athleticism is quantified though, you're right to point out that one can't declare Kendrick to be faster as a fact. :hi:

Clear as mud. But if you watch practices and this isn't an observation of his brief forays of playing time I guess we'll wait and see. Faster than Kerbyson isn't necessarily a victory over Richmond...or is he molasses on your stopwatch?

I believe Kendricks strength and experience beat out Richmond.. He continues to look like the better player at this juncture.. Richmond will be good in the future just not ready at this time

Reading comprehension skills need updating much? I swear I do not recall typing the word Kerbyson anywhere in this thread except below?

Further since you brought it up, does ANYONE on VN recall a discussion by ANYONE on staff that Blair was battling or close to a starting spot with or over Kerbyson? As best I recall for years including this one most posters who have watched Blair have discussed his perennial black stripe.

Richmond has slightly quicker feet............I think. Give him the nod for that!

Kendrick definitely more of a mauler type.

Richmond may still be one year out from being ready for the SEC.

I think the scarier part of this discussion is that someone who almost walked off and left the team last year is who will be protecting Dobb's blind side.

Also does this mean that Hall has locked down right tackle for sure?

Why the bashing on Kendrick? Appears he's following the typical path for an offensive lineman - red shirted 1st year, played in all the games his RS freshman season including 2 starts with one being at LT against alabubba, starts the 1st 5 games his RS somp year until he goes down with a knee injury. Now he's back as a 4th year junior competing for a starting position again. Appears to have kept his nose clean and worked hard in the S&C program. If Kendrick was terrible like some of you are inferring, then they'd just hand the position to Richmond and hope for the best.

I for one wouldn't be devastated if Kendrick and Hall manned the 2 OT spots because that would mean they were better than a RS 5* recruit. My bet would be all 3 play heavy minutes and its unlikely none of the 3 don't miss time due to injury. Glad to have 3 viable guys in the mix, wish we had 4 or 5 ready to play OT.

This "Richmond may still be one year out from being ready for the SEC." IMO is reasonable and very well could be. I've heard no one this season from the staff mention that is the case. I however do know if you leave him on the bench another season, then the discussion is next year, he's never played against significant SEC competition, in other words you manufacture and perpetuate his deficit. AND you do this for a young man, Kendrick, that has failed to distinguish himself with stellar play on the field, granted he has gotten bigger in the weight room this year? If Richmond is being dominated and Kendrick is head and shoulders over Richmond, sure he needs to be starting there. However I've heard no one suggesting Kendrick is flat out performing Richmond and if he's not Richmond has more upside that Kendrick either does not have or has not taken advantage of in his time on The Hill.

A RSJR looks better on day 2 of practice than a RSFR. . .happens. Both will see PT this season. But Richmond ends up with the job but he may not get the initial nod.
