Kendrick vs Richmond

Just kidding. I think the talent of Richmond is too much in the end and he wins the starting job.

Who ya got to win the starting job?

From the cheap seats here....

I think the coaches will be fair.

That said, I'd imagine Kendrick will have to flat out win the job to get it. Richmond is/was such a high profile recruit, and CBJ & Co are so heavily focused on every aspect of the UT recruiting narrative at all times, that any bias which does creep in will be to see the Richmond story come to fruition, plus he's from Memphis...

I don't see where the Kendrick love was generated from. He's been here three years and if he was the lockdown starter in waiting , I'm wondering why an OG and a one legged former walk-on were preferences. I know lights come on sometimes late but the battery should have been ordered when we really needed a performer to step up.

Speculation on my part. Kendrick starts at the beginning of the season with Richmond getting plenty of snaps. Gets decided on the playing field before the FL game which one will start the rest of the season.

Sounds like Kendrick has put in a lot of work over the offseason too. I'm glad we have a real competition at that spot this year instead of the "he who screws up the least" we've had in the past.

This is pretty much how I see it playing out. I'm pretty much expecting the battle to go into week 1 at least. The first depth chart UT releases might even have one of those "Brett Kendrick OR Drew Richmond" things going on.

That being said, barring injury I expect Richmond to be the guy by season's end.

Hyams said on the radio today that Kendrick has grown to 6'7 315lbs, and he's been in a college s/c program for 3 years. Dude is no joke physically.

Kendrick is a better run blocker than pass blocker so I think he get the nod at RT and LT will be between Hall and Richmond.

I think Richmond wins LT, Hall never leaves RT and Kendrick never leaves the bench.

This is where my head basically is as well. If Kendrick hasn't locked down anything in the three years he's already been here AND had playing time when our OL was at some of it's lowest points ever and it really is a tossup between him and Richmond, the nod goes to Richmond. Richmond needs to see the field a lot unless he is a total bust and I've heard no one suggest that is the case. Richmond should get the start over Kendricks and will play at or better than the level required as an SEC LT. He's the future there anyway, get him on the field now.

Rather have Pittman

Personally would rather have the guy that has gotten us to where we are now than the guy who isn't here. Pittman is a great coach, but nothing says he would have done any better than Mahoney under the same circumstances.
