Tennessee left tackle Brett Kendrick has blocked for a few different running backs during his career. None have matched the rugged style of John Kelly. Kelly brought a smile to Kendrick’s face as he watched the sophomore fight for extra yards against Texas A&M last month.

"I have never seen anyone run as angry as John Kelly. Little crazy legs, he got up running off the ground a couple times at A&M,” Kendrick said. “I don’t know, he’s just unlike anybody I’ve ever seen before. He just gets off the ground so angry and wants the ball again. He’s fun though, he’s fun to block for."

...More than just filling a yardage void in the backfield, Kelly has filled a leadership void for the Vols. Jones called Kelly the “heart and soul of toughness.” “He was one of the most vocal players we had (Sunday) night in my individual meetings with some guys,” Jones said. “You talk about asserting your will on a football team. He is very, very passionate.”

Funny..I was thinking earlier this year that we didn't really have anyone at the RB position to replace Hurd/Kamara because I figured them gone for the year. Man I was dead wrong after watching Kelly the times he has found game time. Impressed..not worried.

Also...kind of made those Hurd to TE jokes seem...not a bad idea..

Here's a nutty kinda thought. Is it possible that old Nationdom finally got one right? (no offense Nationdom😁). He's consistently said that John Kelly is a better running back than Hurd for awhile now. One can pretty easily make a case right now that he is.

Much props Nationdom.

When I've been told that people should block for everyone the same, this story is my point. Sometimes you like the guy better and it makes it more fun. I feel it's easier to go all out knowing he will take advantage of your hard work instead of complain about how the offense doesn't work for him.

Legit IMO. We're all only human.

He runs pissed and his balance is amazing. I'm happy the kid is finally getting to put in work on the field

I was skeptical of Kelly at first but watching his motor changed my mind. I love seeing players with that determination. Him and Jennings bring it every play!! Only if we could get every player to play with that intensity then we would be undefeated or in better shape.

When the kid from LA recommitted and Kelly verballed 3 days later, I thought Butch just had to settle for the next RB available. Looks more like Butch may have asked him to look around while bringing JK in. He looks like he has the "it" factor.

Unlike Hurd, Kelly is built exactly for this type of offense.
