Kendrick ok with position switch

Thomas hasn't shown the reaction time or foot quickness to be a tackle. And he doesn't have the strength to be a guard at this level, at this time. So, therein lies the problem. He really needs a red-shirt year. Hopefully one of the other guys can take RT position and run with it. Unfortunately, it seems like he's the best option ATM. He'll probably be counting on a lot of help from the TE and RB in pass blocking.

There's no way they would redshirt Thomas with a line this thin

WHat was the title of the thread last week that had a picture of Tuttle and Kmac standing on the practice field together? I need a pic of that but can't find it. Thanks.

thomas is not a tackle.

Thomas has all the measurables you want for a prototypical RT as far as size and athleticism goes. The problem is that he's just not very good at it regardless. The potential is there, but the light hasn't come on for him. Meanwhile Kendrick showed himself to be pretty consistent and solid last year and in the spring.

But then again, what do I know.

I think we should withhold judgment about each of these individuals, and about the OL as a whole, until we see it on the field. Just my Irish O'pinion.

Guys, I know you've seen 11 seconds of camp footage of Thomas, and now think he is the worst tackle to ever wear orange, but this decision is out of our control. The coaches seem to be stubbornly standing by their analysis that Coleman Thomas is RT material even if it is going to cost us games and eventually lead to their firing.

Weird. Our staff whom we pay millions of dollars to make these decisions seem to think otherwise.

These responses are always some of my favorites. They also paid out millions of dollars last season to make the same decision. How'd that work out? They finally had to play a guy with a blown ACL at the position and even he did better.

We all hope Thomas has improved and plays lights out all season. But just because the coaches want to play him there, it does not mean he will get it done. We know Kendrick can get it done because we watched him do it, unlike Thomas.

So you're saying that Butch and company would purposefully play the inferior player and risk losing games simply because they want him to be the tackle at all costs? Or are you saying that they don't know anything about offensive line play and are just bumbling through fall camp aimlessly? And just so we're clear, what exactly have you seen of fall camp that makes you think Thomas isn't as good as Kendrick? We know Kendrick wasn't terrible last year at tackle. But what have you seen since fall camp started that makes you qualified to levy a final verdict of comparison?

Still having nightmares of Eric Striker and Dante Fowler getting to Worley off the right edge basically untouched.

Untouched? A couple of times not even threatened. That one time Helm & Thomas ushered ES through with a 2 foot cushion on either side. Both of them just stood there waiting to block air.

As horrible as this seems, the good news is these were true freshman in a hostile environment with an AA flying by them.

I'm hoping that a year of learning, a whole season of hard knocks and rapid schooling, plus an off season in the weight room ... will make Coleman and our other young OL look a lot different early this season. Hope ain't a strategy, but it's all I got.

Are you trying to say the coaches are purposely playing an inferior player? That's a pretty bold statement you're making

So Coleman Thomas has the ideal size to play tackle. He also has the feet of the skipper in quicksand. (google it youngin's)

Our offense is more reliant on good gaurd/center than tackle.

Spread mitigates edge rush but interior pressure is especially horrible for what we are doing.

So if Kmac pancakes everyone he plays against this year... does that ease the anxiety of watching our own guys get it in practice. Just knowing that everyone will be run over not just our own lineman...

Anybody think this is the "right" answer to the question? What is the kid supposed to say? "I think coach is wrong"????

We'll find out soon enough. We have less than a month until he has to face Eric Striker again.

From my limited view of practices, he looks a lot better at guard than OT. So far he's shining there. That
makes it hard to hate the switch regardless of CT. Besides, I'm sure the hope is is that Richmond can take the RT spot midseason. That would put CT likely at backup center which would be nice if coaches feel he is our future there.
