if not mistaken that was to be jackson's last game. i think he was to retire but did not. i also believe jackson called the sugar bowl against miami

no, his last game was in 2006; last game he called was the Texas - USC game

see what you meant though; looked like he was originally intending to retire at the end of that but rescinded and did limited television cfb broadcasts after that

yep was supposed to be his last one and we heard all about it as the Vols were finishing off their perfect season. Think you're right on the Sugar too

There's a great interaction of Jackson w/ whoever the other announcer (I think it was Dan Fouts) where Texas goes for a 2pt conversion and gets it in the 4th quarter and the dialogue goes something like:

12:21 -- Young runs for the 2-point conversion. I now have him ranked above every NFL QB except for Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer. Good golly. We also had this exchange right after the conversion:

-- Jackson: "Only 19 seconds to play ... clock didn't move on that play."
-- Fouts: "That's an extra point, it's probably not going to ... "

Keith Jackson also called the Tenn-Auburn game in 1985 when Auburn came into Knoxville as the no. one team. I remember a comment by Jackson after the game when he said he saw an orange moon rise over Knoxville and thought to himself that "ol' John" had the Tennessee program under control.

Jackson also did the SEC championship game Peytons senior year in 97 because I remember the other guy trying to get Jackson to admit who he voted for and jackson would only admit it wasnt Manning.

Has either one ever commentated a vol football game?

Jackson did the 1986 Sugar Bowl Vols vs. Miami....the 1987 Kickoff Classic Vols vs. Iowa Hawkeyes....the 1998 National Championship Game Vols vs. Florida St......these I know for sure. Musburger, I`m not sure about....i do remember him calling A game between the Vols and Bama when the "Bear" was still their coach....I think it was in the late 70`s or early 80`s

I definitely remember that in a bad way. Lost some respect for him there.

Plus iirc Kieth Jackson was the one trashing the Vols uniform during the Vols vs UCLA in '94

Jackson did the play by play for the 86 sugar bowl, But IIRC Musberger was in the studio. I remember his stupid line right before the commercial preceding Kickoff. "They are gonna test them deep, Test them early, And Testaverde may". I was only 16 and I remember thinking how stupid that line was. I have had no respect for either one since that game. The way they called it you would have thought they were in house UM homers.

Bill Anderson told a funny story about Keith Jackson on the old video of John And Bill's 10 greatest games.
Check it out, it's good stuff.

Jackson called the 1980 Bama game in Knoxville. I heard him speak at a Communications event the the nite before or that day.

I hated Keith Jackson.

He had absolutely no respect for Tennessee Football. Talked us down every chance he got. Pre-game, quarter-by-quarter. play-by play and post-game. I used to cuss this sob every time he opened his mouth. I would get so pissed at him he would become the focus and not the game. Thank god i figured out I could listen to John Ward and mute the T.V.

On his tomb stone will be a orange and white checkered end zone that says "GO BAMA".
