Keeping Coach Gran (merged)

We need to keep Gran. He is good for the program in many ways and we just need to keep him. Recruiting is critical. Coaching running backs is critical, coaching kickers is important and being a good example of a man is more than critical to these young men at this point in their lives...Match and give him more. Hardesty is a good example...Cadillac, Ronnie and others are also examples. The kicker at Auburn now is his recruit...We need to keep him.

After the kiffins, gran is my favorite coach. He is a force in florida, a great coach, and a great man. Apparently he is being offered 325,000 a year and a position upgrade.
Is there anyway to keep him and how?

IMO do whatever it takes. I think he's one of our best, if not the best, position coaches. And definitely one of our best recruiters. Getting a superb 2010 class is key to getting our program back to championship caliber by 2011-2012. We can't drop the ball on this class, and I'm afraid of what happens if we lose Gran right now.

I agree, now is not the time to lose Gran, especially to a FLORIDA school. yikes. this could mean disaster for this recruiting class in Florida. We have many recruits out there hanging in the balance....Luc, several Dbacks, etc...I don't like our odds of pulling surprise recruits out of Florida if we lose Gran to FSU. I would rather him have gone to Memphis now that this has come up. Pony up the DOUGH UT!!!!!!

I think they'll give him a raise to keep him. Especially now that Wilson is gone. I like Wilson but Gran would be a much bigger loss.

I know the is a serious thread but a little humor every once in a while lightens the mood.So with that said maybe they should let Nuke and Mike Edwards talk to CEG.:gun:

They could certainly share a thing or two about what wanting more money can do for your career.

I too would like to keep EG as long as we can. I knew though it wouldn't take long for other schools to come a calling. I really could see him as a head coach in the future if that's what he is aiming for. But looking at his track record with Tubbs he seems to be pretty loyal. Not a team hopper. We all know money talks though.

Always thought that at $185k, Gran is the most underpaid guy on the staff, especially when Lance Thompson makes $350.

Obviously you never want to lose quality coaches, but when you put together an all star staff like CLK has, other schools are going to come calling. I personally think coach Wilson can be replaced, w/o his departure hurting us. As long as we have coach O we can recruit La effectively. Coach Gran is a totally different situation. Knowing the priority CLK has placed on recruiting Fla, and the success Gran has had there for many years, it would be a devastating blow should we lose him. I hope CLK goes to bat for Gran with MH and does whatever it takes to keep him. If we can pay Monte and O what they are making we need to pony up and pay Gran what he deserves. He is a proven winner both in recruiting and coaching and I will be pissed if we don't do everything possible to retain him.
KEEP EDDIE GRAN !

I am with you! But,
Reality is that Gran is a family man that spends too much time in the state of FL as it is. I think that he would much rather drive 2-3 hrs to visit recruits and be home the same night.
