Keeping Chaney As OC?

Do you want to keep Chaney?

I simply think we throw Chaney under the bus more than we would if they had a solid defense and coach. Kinda reminds me of how we got mad at Chavis enough times yet now we got Sunseri...

I agree that he's done a pretty good job with our offense, at the same time though, some could argue who couldn't do well with our offense, 2 of the best recievers in the country, a NFL tightend, maybe the best offensive line in the country.. a QB at times that looks like a 1st rounder. I'm just saying these stats we are putting up are not with scrubs..He has really good offensive players.. o-line being the most impressive and probably most important to having a good offense.

I think it's also hard for us to watch a drive start out with a 12 yard run, 7 yard run, 9 yard run, then go for 9 straight passes... He loses his head sometimes and tries to go for the big play when he just needs a drive.

As for sal... :banghead2:

Maybe our bad defense influenced some of CJC's play calling . It appeared to be erratic at times. :twocents:

So Chaney is off the hook for those 3rd and 4 yds when he called for a 20 yd pass? Not once but fairly consistently during the year and with little to no success.

The guy cannot call a good game....start to finish. He should go.

This is my main problem with Chaney and if you're going to be the OC, it should be your job to call the offense.

I don't want him anymore. its funny how quickly we forget the first 2 seasons and only remember only the 1 great season. He was horrible with the rb's until we got a coach specifically for them. Even now that we have a decent run game he his quick to abandon it, even when its the only thing working, and becomes pass happy.
I honestly believe if he ran a more balanced attack and was willing to stick with the run game, we would have won a couple more games. If we would've stuck with the run game it would have kept our D off the field a little longer and also would have taken alot of pressure off of Bray, who we know isn't the strongest performer under pressure.
I think the first 2 years were more the rule and this last year more the exception when it comes to Chaney's offense's. Next year if we don't have Bray's arm strength and accuracy then his offense will once again be mediocre at best, then you remove Hunter and CP and it will sputter and we will end up with an offense thats performance will rival this years defense.
I'd rather the new coach bring in an OC that he's comfortable with and will run a system they know well. I don't want another post Kiffin situation where the next HC is forced to keep coaches he really don't want just to save some money. Its my belief that that is what caused us to be rejected by so many good coaches and be left with someone of Dooleys name recognition and experience.

Agree Chaney doesn't get the credit he deserves, but also never mention Justin Wilcox being the key to a good team ever again as long as you live thanks, bye.

Whoa dude I never said Wilcox was good I said he wouldn't have the worst defense in UT history and the Vols only needed a top 50 team to be 9 or 10 win team.

Dude that was a retarded statement. Horrible with rbs til they got some1 for that position? You think? He's not a rb coach and you want him gone? That's stupid.

A lot of Dooley supporters tried to scapegoat Chaney, but it just depended on who was easist to blame during any given week.

In the end, it seemed like an NFL bound QB topped Dooley's list of scapegoats... really stupid.

Hope Bray knows it was the coach and not him. It was obvious to everyone else watching.

I guess since Les Miles never has a good offense he should be fired...

Oh and as for your comment on my post, way to pick a single point out of an entire comment and ignore the rest and act like that the single reason I stated for wanting him gone. I want him gone for his bad game management and situational play calling.
But then again I wouldn't expect anything less from someone that can't even be consistent with their opinions.

No on chaney. Put up some numbers but time to move on. He kills momentum too much and the right DC can make him panic and the gameplan turns into the same routes over and over.

I see where you are coming from, 93, but I can't defend Chaney.

Here's my last words on Chaney:

1. He clearly didn't develop Bray. I still maintain that two weeks with Cut and he would be Clutch and All-World.

2. He didn't realize we had an elite O-line and RB coach. He convinced Dooley to go X-box philosophy when we could have gone "old man football".

3. Old man football would have really helped Sal Sunseri's No-Dee.

4. This offense would have scored points without an OC. Cordarelle Patterson is the sickest Vol since Chuck Webb.

5. Despite Sal Sunseri, this offense had multiple opportunities to win big games, and it never delivered once in three years.

6. How many times did we dial up the bomb on 3rd and 1? We have an elite O-line. Devrin, Lane, Neal, CP, hell, I hated it, but AJ - we could have converted third and one 80% this year. If it was Bray, do you think he would have dared do that under Cut?

Just say NO to Chaney. He's so WAC he needs to go there.

The offense is good, but it could have been better. Bray seems to have no idea what hot reads are and the WR's/TE's do not adjust their routes to coverage, and playcalling is downright terrible at times.

Its the nature of fans and of people, opinions change often, sometimes hourly.

How would you guys feel about Chaney remaining as offensive coordinator under the new HC?

He's helped build a very successful offense here, but some have issues with his play calling. Do you think he's good enough to keep around, or no?

I don't consider 18 points against Vandy to be "very successful".
