I do not have the same feeling about Chaney that I do about Dooley...under the right direction (HC) Chaney could be pretty good.

Chaney:

1. The guy who hasn't developed Bray
2. The guy who didn't realize we had an elite O-line
3. The guy who didn't help a defense that needed it
4. The guy who even Kiffin wouldn't let call plays
5. The guy whose offense NEVER delivered in the clutch
6. Yeah, let's keep that guy :ermm

He scored points with an offense that didn't need an OC to score points. He'll do fine in a league where they don't play defense.

This post is spot on.:salute:

How would you guys feel about Chaney remaining as offensive coordinator under the new HC?

He's helped build a very successful offense here, but some have issues with his play calling. Do you think he's good enough to keep around, or no?

I do hope the new coach wants to keep J. Graham. He and Pittman are two fine coaches.

"Hey Jon we are glad you have accepted the job at Tennessee. We have pre selected Chaney as your OC. Is that ok with you? "

Other than the fulmer thread this is by far the dumbest suggestion I have seen thus far. Everyone is now dumber for reading this and may god have mercy on your soul.

I've pretty much supported Chaney since his first day at UT. In my view, he's a pretty darn solid offensive coordinator.

And, whether he calls the plays you would or not, the offense was not a problem this year. If we had recruited and kept a bruiser running back like Bryce Brown, instead of having a top 10 offense, it would have been the most productive in the country, especially considering the SEC defenses it went against.

Dooley proved he could stop it, by taking Bray out of the game; otherwise, solid work by Coach Chaney!

Still, it's up to the new HC. I think Chaney made a solid case to be considered for whomever takes the HC job.

Just my opinion.. :hi:

Yes, I've wanted to send him to a a mental hospital sometimes but he's a pretty good OC and just imagine how good the offense would look if they had a halfway decent defense on the team, not that they don't look good already most of the time. You have to give him some props for how he's played catch up all year. Yes he gives up on the run too easily sometimes, but a decent defense wouldn't put him in such situations. I hope the new coach keeps him, Graham and Pittman, because frankly, just like headcoaches, there isn't a ton of OCs that can succeed in the SEC. And he did it this year without a defense. So unless the new coach brings in the hottest name I don't see a reason to can him. We've been too hard on him. (Plus he had Dooley as he's head coach)

I simply think we throw Chaney under the bus more than we would if they had a solid defense and coach. Kinda reminds me of how we got mad at Chavis enough times yet now we got Sunseri...

It's not so much that Chaney is a bad OC, its that his playing calling really sucks at times.

I agree 100% but if he had a DC that kept the Vols in the top 50 or 40 he would look a lot better not having to make a crap load of calls. I've said it before, if Wilcox was still here they'd be 10-2 and Chaney would be the most coveted OC.

So Chaney is off the hook for those 3rd and 4 yds when he called for a 20 yd pass? Not once but fairly consistently during the year and with little to no success.

The guy cannot call a good game....start to finish. He should go.

we need to hire a great coach and let him decide who to retain and who to let go.

I agree but we hired Kiffin and look what happened (Monte for Chavis). But a lot of people want Chaney fired and I think he is a lot better than credited.

Agree Chaney doesn't get the credit he deserves, but also never mention Justin Wilcox being the key to a good team ever again as long as you live thanks, bye.

Totally agree, but the new coach would be crazy not to take a long hard look at Graham and Pittman.

If it's Patterson, I could see where he would keep both of them.

OP I agree if we had half a decent defense we wouldn't even care about letting Chaney go. Fact is our offense ranked high in nation but defense deminished any recognition with losses.

I'm undecided about letting him go. He did have 30 points or more game.
