Keep Pruitt he is learning and making changes: offense

I am still hoping Pruitt can pull it off and yes, he has had some challenges with no recruiting time his first year and COVID this year. I also get that he was trying to protect Bailey for a bit.

that said, while Pruitt clearly knows football, there has been a lot of issues with what he is putting on the field. Several of our losses this year were ridiculous.

I like JP but after 3 years, I should not be required to believe in him. I should be able to SEE the results with my eyes.
Once again Gandalf shines the light of reason.

In the last three games, Tennessee has seen its passing game take the next step. The Vols have passed for 240-plus yards in three straight games, marking the first time they have done that since the 2012 season – 381 at South Carolina, 530 vs. Troy, 432 vs. Missouri. It's also the first time that UT has passed for 240-plus yards in three straight SEC games since 2009 – 259 vs. Auburn, 310 vs. Georgia, 265 at Alabama. Tennessee threw for 242 yards at Auburn on Nov. 21, 240 yards vs. No. 6 Florida on Dec. 5 and 328 yards in a win at Vanderbilt on Dec. 12.

True freshman Harrison Bailey and sophomore J.T. Shrout each threw a pair of touchdowns in the win at Vanderbilt on Dec. 12. It was the first time the Vols threw four or more touchdowns in a game since tallying four against No. 20 Florida on Sept. 24, 2016. In the last two games combined, Tennessee has thrown for six touchdowns and only one interception. The six TD passes is tied for the SEC lead with Alabama in the month of December. In the two December games, UT is 48-of-69 for 568 yards and a completion percentage of 69.6, which ranks third in the SEC behind Texas A&M (78.3) and Alabama (75.8).

Against No. 6 Florida on Dec. 5, Tennessee orchestrated three scoring drives of over 94 yards. It was the first time since at least 2003 that the Vols had three scoring drives of 90+ yards in a game. In a loss at No. 21 Auburn on Nov. 21, the Vols tallied 28 first downs, representing the most in the Jeremy Pruitt era. It was also the most first downs in a game by UT since recording 29 against Kentucky on Nov. 12, 2016. Tennessee has put up over 400 yards of total offense in two of its last three games, including a Pruitt-era-high 540 at Vanderbilt and 464 at No. 21 Auburn on Nov. 21.
If you just look, you will see that we're starting to show some identity. Pruitt is learning, he will get there.

How many yards will we throw for today?

How many touchdowns will we be down at the end of the 4th quarter?

I agree, but you dug awfully deep to get those numbers.

Remember, he’s already turned over his coaching staff once, as only Best Friend is coaching the same position he was only two years ago. Weinke and Neidermeyer are coaching different positions.

Pruitt has a mighty thin Rolodex. His first staff was mostly his buds or guys he coached with somewhere else. Helton and Fair had coached with Friend, and Ansley had coached with Brumbaugh. Prepare to be underwhelmed with the new round of hires.

A UT win today is the only way I’ll be convinced he’s anywhere close to salvaging his job.
This season was an unmitigated disaster. Yes, next year will be his best roster and somehow we still managed to sign a decent class. Still, I wonder how many defections we see.

I would only support a change if UT could do it without the fanfare of a drawn out search.

Great post with good research. It says a lot about this board when someone puts time and effort into a post and it immediately devolves into taking shots at Pruitt. I know we're all frustrated but can a single positive thing be allowed on here?

And he's absolutely right about Auburn, we had one of our best offensive games against them. We missed two field goals (from good drives) and we're 2 ft higher on a pass for 7 more points. If you don't think we've improved offensively since Arkansas then I don't know how to convince you, final points is not the only number to look at. Yes, we can still make more improvements and that'll hopefully happen today and through the off-season with Bailey/Shrout.

Ummm, their recruiting class turned to shat because they fired their coach without a plan A or B.

I could see Auburn turning into a tire fire.

He put in a lot of research. He read all the way to post #4 in the game thread and executed a flawless copy/paste.

240 yards + passing in 3 straight games for the first time since 2012 just shows how utterly inept this program has been the last decade and continues to be.

240 ypg puts the Vols at about 54th for the season in passing with today's video game offenses.

Showing improvement in one aspect of your game while showing deterioration in many others just doesn't cut it in the SEC. You get one chance to sell yourself and your vision as a new head coach in this league. Pruitt never understood that and.never had the right mindset for this job. Fulmer should have passed on him the very moment that said that he wanted to stay at bama and be a coordinator for the championship.

Man u know that W/L record is skewed. Year 1 doesn't count. He inherited the worse roster in school history, with a late start on the job, and still won more games then the previous year with Botch's players. He is basically 11-11 right now at the halfway point of a 5yr rebuild. Yal wont even let his 1st class become seniors before u want to fire him. Progression doesn't always take an upward trajectory. Sometimes their are high's and low's on your way to the peak.
