In the last three games, Tennessee has seen its passing game take the next step. The Vols have passed for 240-plus yards in three straight games, marking the first time they have done that since the 2012 season – 381 at South Carolina, 530 vs. Troy, 432 vs. Missouri. It's also the first time that UT has passed for 240-plus yards in three straight SEC games since 2009 – 259 vs. Auburn, 310 vs. Georgia, 265 at Alabama. Tennessee threw for 242 yards at Auburn on Nov. 21, 240 yards vs. No. 6 Florida on Dec. 5 and 328 yards in a win at Vanderbilt on Dec. 12.

True freshman Harrison Bailey and sophomore J.T. Shrout each threw a pair of touchdowns in the win at Vanderbilt on Dec. 12. It was the first time the Vols threw four or more touchdowns in a game since tallying four against No. 20 Florida on Sept. 24, 2016. In the last two games combined, Tennessee has thrown for six touchdowns and only one interception. The six TD passes is tied for the SEC lead with Alabama in the month of December. In the two December games, UT is 48-of-69 for 568 yards and a completion percentage of 69.6, which ranks third in the SEC behind Texas A&M (78.3) and Alabama (75.8).

Against No. 6 Florida on Dec. 5, Tennessee orchestrated three scoring drives of over 94 yards. It was the first time since at least 2003 that the Vols had three scoring drives of 90+ yards in a game. In a loss at No. 21 Auburn on Nov. 21, the Vols tallied 28 first downs, representing the most in the Jeremy Pruitt era. It was also the most first downs in a game by UT since recording 29 against Kentucky on Nov. 12, 2016. Tennessee has put up over 400 yards of total offense in two of its last three games, including a Pruitt-era-high 540 at Vanderbilt and 464 at No. 21 Auburn on Nov. 21.

Pruitt Overall Record - 16 and 18; definite regression in wins and losses this season.

Pruitt is the worst Tennessee Football Coach in the last 50 years.

I am still hoping Pruitt can pull it off and yes, he has had some challenges with no recruiting time his first year and COVID this year. I also get that he was trying to protect Bailey for a bit.

that said, while Pruitt clearly knows football, there has been a lot of issues with what he is putting on the field. Several of our losses this year were ridiculous.

I like JP but after 3 years, I should not be required to believe in him. I should be able to SEE the results with my eyes.

He's not changing his offense. He made a change at QB which if he were any kind of coach he should've done it sooner. The key to victory against his offense, stack the box the first couple of downs then drop everybody in coverage on third down. Three and out nearly every series.. Worst HC at Tennessee in my lifetime.

Ridiculously bad for any year, much less 3rd year. SMDH.......

I appreciate your optimism, especially with the sea of negativity. I truly do hope Pruitt turns the corner next year. And I believe he has to do it next year. Given many struggles to this point, I'm not optimistic. But maybe a full off season and a complete schedule next year will do the trick.

Ole Miss came off 3 weeks of downtime and threw 6 TDs on Vandy. They're a useless measurement of "improvement" for UT and were useful for nothing but "stat padding" for those who want to show CJP is "almost there." He's not.

That said, I don't think Pruitt is going to be fired this year and possibly not next year. The extension from PF was inexcusable (as though someone was going to "poach" CJP from TN) and left us in a bad buyout situation.

It's a big gamble to buyout yet another coach and hope for a great hire, given recent history.

Yeah, we ARE UT and a good spot for a coach to land but our last coaching search was a c&#terf#+k of ugliness. Our track record of hiring coaches recently is...... suspect.

Is there any indication that the administration is going to change the way we've gone about our last few coaching selections? There's not, sadly.

At this point, I'd suspect both donors and admins are sick of the merry-go-round of coaching changes and are clueless on what to do differently. I don't think they'll do anything for another 2-3 years.
