Dunbar is the current DL coach for the Minnesota Vikings. He was on staff with Dooley at LSU. Seems like he could be a possibility for DC.

Per Wikipedia

Karl Dunbar (born May 18, 1967) is a former American football defensive lineman and current coach. He is currently serving as defensive line coach for the Minnesota Vikings since 2006. The so-called “Williams Wall”, consisting of defensive tackle Kevin Williams and nose tackle Pat Williams, led the NFL in defense against the run each of the past three seasons.

Dunbar played three seasons in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals. A 2nd-Team All-SEC defensive tackle as a senior at Louisiana State, Dunbar was picked in the 8th round, 209th overall, of the 1990 NFL Draft. Shortly after his playing career ended, Dunbar started coaching at the high school level, first at Opelousas (LA ) High, in 1996, before moving to Beau Chene (LA) High in 1997. His return to college football came in 1998-99 at Division I-AA Nicholls State as the defensive line coach.

In 2000, he started working with the Tigers’ strength and conditioning program, before being hired as defensive line coach by Oklahoma State's Les Miles. At OSU, Dunbar tutored Kevin Williams during his breakout senior season and helped him become the first Cowboys defensive lineman to be a 1st-round draft pick since Leslie O'Neal 17 years earlier.

Moving on to the NFL, Dunbar was hired by Lovie Smith to guide to Chicago Bears defensive line. He helped tutor a young and talented line that included rookie 1st-round pick Tommie Harris and 2nd-rounder Tank Johnson. The Bears led the NFL in 3rd-down defense, allowing opponents to convert at a 30.5% rate while ranking 15th in the NFL in pass defense. After the 2004 season, Dunbar returned to his alma mater, which had just hired Les Miles as new head coach. In 2005, Dunbar’s linemen paved the way for the Tigers defense to rank #5 in the nation in total defense at 276.8 yards per game and 7th in the country in rushing defense at 94.8 yards per game. The defense also allowed only 15.2 points per game, which ranked 8th in the nation, and led the SEC with 39 team sacks.

In 2006, Dunbar returned to the NFL, as he was hired by the Vikings' new head coach, Brad Childress. Over the past three years, the Vikings only allowed an average of 68.5 rushing yards per game.[1]

Something around $300,000 to $400,000 a year.

That's what this says too according to my google search...

Who Might Jimbo Fisher Select as Florida State's New DefensiveCoordinator? - Tomahawk Nation

Karl Dunbar- Defensive Line coach, Minnesota Vikings

Age: 42 years old

Connected to: Jimbo Fisher- Dunbar was the S&C coach at LSU in 2000-2001 and he coached the defensive line at LSU in 2005.

Coaching Experience: DL coach Nicholls State (1998-1999), Strength and Conditioning coach LSU (2000-2001), DL coach Oklahoma State (2002-2003), DL coach Chicago Bears (2004), DL coach LSU (2005), DL coach Minnesota Vikings (2006-present)

Coached with: Nick Saban, Lovie Smith

Current Salary: Probably between $300,000 and $400,000.

Can he coach? "You don't get hired by Nick Saban and Lovie Smith if you can't coach." Granted, Saban only hired him as a S&C coach in 2000. However, the Vikings' defensive line has been one of the best in the NFL under Dunbar's leadership.

Can he recruit? Has all the qualities to potentially be a great recruiter. Has an NFL and SEC pedigree, is young, and is a successful coach. Kids love the NFL pedigree.

Should FSU want him? Dunbar would be a great hire should Jimbo choose not to retain Odell Haggins. Dunbar could be trusted with the entire defensive line, freeing up an additional coaching position.

Could FSU get him? Dunbar is extremely involved in the Minneapolis community. As an NFL assistant, he is also paid very well. FSU probably does not have the funds to bring him here as a position coach. I also do not think that Dunbar would take a step down.

Travis Jones may be an even better bet than Dunbar.

Coached with Saban and Dooley at LSU. Served as the Recruiting Coordinator after Dooley at LSU. Raked in a top 25 recruiting class when he was at App State before that.

He is now the New Orleans Saints DL coach.

I do believe the next DC for UT will be coming from the NFL.

All these names in this thread could fit the bill.

I think UT is willing to pay there DC about $750k like there offer to Steele. If its true and these DL coaches in the NFL are only making $3-400K they would be stupid not to accept and coach in the SEC.

Exactly, I would prefer Dunbar over Jones though. Mainly because he has produced so many great D lineman not only in college, but in the NFL too.

I like either DL coach mentioned.

Either one would finish off the defensive coaching staff filling the DL coach role and DC.

I like the NFL DC since the slower speed of the college game should only make the job easier, I would think.

I would be worried about the first few years of a WAC DC coming to the SEC.

Looks like the Bears are looking at him too.

From that article, it looks like Monday could be an interview day for him or the Saints DL guy for us.

Paid Monty 1 mil why not if the right guy pay them the same

I don't know the guy, but he looks like he's well on his way to a good NFL career. We'd need a position coach who's not getting NFL DC looks, imo.

Money probably won't be the reason we don't this guy, imo.
