Kanter ineligible

I watched their first exhibition game, their interior play looks to be almsot non existent without Kanter. Darius Miller even got some minutes at the 5. Vargas doesn't look to be too improved either.

Looks like UK will appeal.

Hat or anyone else who's knowledgeable on things like this...what are their chances on the appeal?

Anyone else, 0%, but since its Kentucky, 5%.

I wouldn't doubt NCAA has tried to conjure up every excuse and loophole imaginable but this would open a door to sleaze unprecedented in an already sleazy sport. If this was anyone besides Kentucky he would have never even made it to campus.

Barring doctored documents and a special one time exemption, I can't see it happening. But hey, it is Kentucky, where cheating was born.

I'd say they are swimming upstream. That said, since Kentucky stipulated that he received 30,000 or so dollars above expenses, UK obviously has a specific appellate argument in mind. Otherwise, they would never have agreed to any finding of fact. My guess is that Kanter's family will offer to pay the excess back and UK will say Kanter should face a suspension similar to what Deniz Kilicli faced at West Virginia last year. Not sure that will work, because any payment above expenses in that situation makes him a pro. I can't imagine the 'AA wants to get into the business of letting guys receive money, then simply pay it back to regain amateur status.

Certainly creates a chink in the armor for UK. Calipari is gonna actually have to coach now, as opposed to his playground "dribble-drive" offense.

I would think this would actually push him more towards the dribble drive as the DDMO basically runs with only 1 true post player and 4 perimeter players. They didn't run much of it last year with their glut of bigs and to properly utilize Kanter I heard the plan was to run a good bit of pick and roll and also take advantage of his excellent post game.

They kind of are forced into running the DDMO almost exclusively now since you don't want to run any offense through either Harrellson or Vargas and Jones is really a big-bodied SF.

So, basically like 0%.
