Kansas Goes Down

Upsets happen but we'll be favored in every game until then, and most games by a large margin. This is a veteran group with an alpha leader in Barnes at the moment. Barring injuries I think it's a pretty good chance it happens.
We won’t be favored against UK in Lexington.
They are starting to get it going and handled UNC.

Nobody said we would be favored, said that we could be #1 by that time. This years Kentucky team is not that good, easily the softest Ky team in years.

It’s interesting because we lost to KU, but have the better loss...being KU lol

I’d say the votes are gonna be pretty split and we likely end up staying at 3 which seems fine.

There's zero question about who #1 will be - Duke's got that locked up. I do think a few more of the #1 votes will be thrown our way.

Even if Kansas lost by a point to another team in the top 5, I think they'd get bumped. That's just how it works - you lose, you get punished in the polls. Their OT win against us doesn't preclude Tennessee from being ranked ahead of them when they lose to #18.

#1 Is nice and all, but I'd be happy just maintaining a top 6 or 7 ranking. Rankings can be a distraction. I think this team is level headed enough to avoid most of the distractions, thanks to Barnes. But a top ranking for a school that isn't accustomed to it could cause some "Just show up and we win" mentalities to creep in.

Exciting times for TN basketball fans. Easily the most dominant TN I've seen in my lifetime, and that goes back a while.

If we get a few more 1st place votes then we'll be #1. Duke was only 24 points ahead of us. I think it will be Duke but it'll be close.

Right, but the previous rankings also had Kansas at #1 with 56 of 65 first place votes. Duke got 5, and Tennessee got 2. The majority of those votes will now go to Duke, so I'm betting that 24-point gap will actually widen. We may get more than the 5 first place votes Duke got last week, but we'll see.

Of course, if voters somehow decide that Tennessee should be #1, I'm not going to complain. But that's almost certainly not going to happen.

Yep, Michigan got a lot more respect than I thought they would. Doesn't matter though, I still think both Duke and Michigan lose before we do. I believe that we'll be #1 rolling into Lexington. I think much like everyone else that this is a special team. If we stay healthy you could legitimately see a 2-5 loss team this year with long runs in both the SEC and NCAA tournaments. We really need Turner to contribute come tournament time to have a shot at winning both tournaments.

Yep. I don't remember the last time there was a 1-point difference like that, but it's a weird situation. We got more first place votes than Michigan, but it's the three or four people who put us below #5 that gave them the small edge, since I'm guessing everyone had Michigan in the top 5. I know the Kansas City Star voter had us at #9 or #10, which was our "worst" vote.

I agree. And, for us to be doing this without Turner is a huge factor for us getting into SEC play.
