Kamara Has Earned The Start Next Week

I agree with Kamara being the starter but to be fair A&M defense is not that great esp. against the run.

Love Hurd. He is a bulldozer and tough as titanium. But this offense was on another level with AK, and Jelly. Future looks really good.

This. I feel much better about next year after seeing Kelly do work.

Tell ya another thing, if what we lose with Dobbs' running and leadership (if anything) can be replaced with better passing, this offense will be deadly. I'm excited to see it.

K&K was a lethal combination. John Kelly showed what he can deliver with some reps. Will be a great future.

I think you can get Bama a little winded with Kamara and Kelly and Hurd can smash them in the mouth on short yardage and late in the game.

Guys I do love both our boys esp after tonight, but the Aggies defense isn't all that great. Bama will not be gashed for big holes like we saw tonight. Unless Hurd plays differently from the injury, we need him big time IMO. Could be wrong.

They are all 3 good. Kamara has been vastly underutilized . Dobbs was backing up Worley and peterman until Worley got hurt
We shuffle in 7 wide Recievers (1 has to be the best, and 2nd)
We couldn't figure out who should be starting on th OL until 4 games in.
What's all this got to do with OP?
Butch can recruit, but I don't know if he can sort out who needs to be playing!
Sometimes I think the only way some get in is somebody gets hurt , and the backup outplays the starter.

I actually agree with this and I'm a Hurd fan. I think that Kamara and Kelly earned more touches...without a doubt!

They should both get 15 carries, instead of Hurd getting 28 carries and Kamara getting 2. Kamara should also have at least 5 passes thrown his way in a game.

Has he earned the start? It all looked great tonight, but consistency wins football games. It's the little things. Pretty stats are nice, but 7 turnovers got UT the "L". Personally, Id rather be 6-0.

Vol74, I respect that you're standing up for your son, but yes he earned it. Jalen and him should split carries. Let Kamara wear them out chasing him all around the field, then have Jalen destroy them when they're sucking wind. They are both good players but Kamara is explosive catching the ball out of the backfield and can line up in the slot and play as good as any other slot WR on the team. Not to mention, this game means A LOT to Kamara. He transferred from Bama and he said when he committed he wanted to beat Bama 3 times. Well he can only do it twice now, but I'm sure he's motivated to get the first one this week. I'm sure jalen is too and I'm not taking anything away from him, he's very talented as well in a different way. I just say you use jalen to spell Kamara this week and ease jalen back into the offense after the injury. We need them both strong and healthy. And Kamara made up for his ONE fumble. And Jalen had one on a potential scoring play against Georgia as well, so that criticism seems unfair and a bit biased. Kelly had a rough game with the fumbles, and THAT is where we missed Jalen. But Kamara showed tonight why he deserves more touches, he's more explosive and doesn't run in to the "brick wall" as often. Go vols and I hope Jalen is ready to go this weekend in whatever role he has, starter or co-starter.

He is the best RB on this team and its not even close. I love Hurd but Kamara fits our system better. In my opinion they both have been cheated. Kamara by not getting enough touches and Hurd for being forced to play in an offense that doesn't allow him to run downhill with a lead blocker.

This! Hurd is an excellent RB and he does his best work with a little bit of grass. We can't keep forcing him up the middle through a wall of bodies like a snow plow.

I hope they do start Alvin. I'm sure he'll do great against Bama next week. And not my kid, but close enough nonetheless.

Alvin does deserve more touches as he's a great back, but this thread (and the board in general) just pisses on the big guy. How many games has Jalen helped UT win? Nobody remembers that though right? What if Jalen played tonight? You think he'd put up decent numbers against that porous, Swiss cheese run defense? You better be careful before you crown a new king.

I'm not crowning anyone. Giving a dynamic playmaker more touches in this situation is common sense. He brings it. Like I said, that isn't discrediting all jalen does and has done. It's a team sport. If Jalen loses carries, I'd hope he would be fine with that. Like you said, this is about winning games and winning championships, not trying to make sure someone doesn't get their feelings hurt from another player getting reps. I'm sure Jalen IS a team player though and will be happy for Alvin as long as it's what's best for the team.

And I'm sure Jalen would've had great stats tonight as well. But if you can't see that Alvin is a shifter back and gives the offense more of a home run threat, then we will just have to agree to disagree. There is a reason Kamara returns punts for us, a job generally reserved for the more dynamic and explosive players on the team.

Absolutely, they have two different skill sets. Ive been wishing (like most) that Jalen would have been utilized differently (think Outback Bowl) for years now, but he hasn't. He's been wasted as far as I'm concerned. BUT what was our 3rd down completion percentage tonight? How many times did Dobbs get lit up tonight? And how many times did we turn the ball over tonight? Remember, sometimes the little things aren't the pretty things, but they do win you ball games.

Kamara was on the field for one, maybe 2, turnovers. So I'm not sure what the other 5 or 6 have to do with Kamara explicitly (which is what the thread is about). His fumble hurt and cost us points, but he made up for it. The other one that I'm not sure of is the Dobbs sack fumble at the beginning of the game. I'm not doubting Jalens blocking, but we did play against arguably the best pass rusher in the country today. And Dobbs passed for 400 yards, the protection didn't seem much worse than it's been all year considering the competition and the injury to Weisman.

Regardless, I wasn't trying to start an argument, just state my opinion on the matter (which doesn't account for much in the grand scheme :) ). Once again, not taking anything away from Jalen and I hope he is utilized in a better way the rest of the year. As I said, he's a great player and someone we are going to need BIG TIME this weekend. Go Vols.

Well... For what it's worth, the vols are lightyears ahead of where they were and one of main reasons they are is hurd.. kamara is awesome, but no way could he could ever take the pounding hurd has. If hurd had good protection from the start of his career, he would have had the rushing record at the beginning of the season.

When we did converte on 3rd down... it was usually because of Kamara.

Best player on the field tonight.
And any night really.

Kamara is more dangerous than Hurd could ever hope to be.

This post is directly attributed to an argumentative uncle. If you just let it go, people would not argue. By arguing, we get locked down in our belief and fail to reason. Unc, this is on you. Just support the team brother. You argue with the 1%. Please watch the animated movie Frozen ans let it go brother.
