Rumors are flying that UT has rescinded their offer to Kaleb Meredith from University High School in Johnson City. Has anyone heard anything definitive? Also hearing that out of 25 kids brought in last fall, only 3 or 4 are being retained this fall. Reducing the roster size (eventually back to 35) is going to have a far reaching effect on college baseball.

I think his fastball was low to mid 80s. Hate it for him but if he is good enough he can get on with ETSU. TV has us in big time ball now. Gotta have the players.

Seems hard to believe they would only keep 3 or 4 from last year.

I’m gonna say 10-11 in fall and lose 3 after fall. Might lose more after next season but I know there will be 7 guaranteed through fall.

UT has several current left handers that only throw low to mid 80s.

CTV has to utilize his scholarships wisely to Win.
Not with NIL now in play. UT can and should do things in that area to even the playing field so to speak with the likes of Vandy and their built in advantage. No reason to limit ourselves to "available scholarships" anymore.

You did.
roster size was caused by Covid just as a hangover is caused by heavy drinking
Nope. Roster size was caused by the NCAA. Not by COVID. And it was a stupid decision with long term consequences.

And again I challenge you to show where I mentioned COVID.

No it didn't. Roster size changed because the NCAA decided to change it. COVID is incapable of making a decision like that. So stupid.

And you still failed to show me where I mentioned COVID. But keep trying.

Let me help you

Covid>Sports canceled>ncaa grants an extra year>roster sizes expanded

So yea without Covid none of that happens but carry own with the ignorance of thinking Covid isn’t the start of all of this

I knew this would be a BruinVol post as it began to digress. I know exactly where he stands and why. We do agree on most things the difference is I believe that is where college baseball has gone and to compete you have to play on a level playing field. I said 11 of 19 would be back in the fall but I can guarantee seven because I know for sure. Keeping 2/3 of a class has become the norm in college baseball especially in the last couple of years. When you look at the guys that we got out of the portal you understand how it has transformed college baseball especially this year. One was a Friday starter for an SEC team, one a Saturday starter, one started almost all of their games in a power five conference. So you can read into that the guys are not just leaving things because they are not getting to play. Summer leaving due to lack of playing time and some are leaving to play a more competitive teams.
Our guys will leave for different reasons. Some because of no playing time last year, some because they were not getting enough playing time, and some because they see the competition coming in is better than them. Some will be told you do not fit into our plans but we will help you land at a great school. I also believe that coaches get a bad rap for running kids off when they actually just bring in other kids that are better. In recruiting I talk about fishing in the right pond and it is a choice that every player and parents make as to what level of competition they attempt to play in college. When you play at the highest level, you have to know that a team will bring in new competition for your position every year.
I would love to know if they actually pulled the offer on Kaleb or told him the current situation and how they saw him fitting. He had good numbers in single A in baseball and put up crazy great numbers in basketball.
I talked to a player the other day that said a coach pulled the offer. The conversation actually went we just want you to know that you will not be competing for a position this year but will be our bullpen catcher. We want to make sure that you fully understand your role as we see it for the coming year. As long as you understand your role for this year we’re excited about having you. But if this is not the role that you want to play we will be glad to help you find a new place to go. In his abd his parents minds, they pulled the offer so he decided to go somewhere else and the school helped him get into another D1. Mine is I do not think they pulled the offer just told him what his role would be. no different than telling a player they will be an automatic redshirt their freshman year.

You are a obviously special. But I will continue to try and educate you.

The NCAA made a horrible decision to expand roster sizes and grant an extra year of eligibility. The root cause of the decision really isn't important.

And you adjusting or changing your argument every time I prove you wrong is not helping your cause. Again, please show me where I mentioned COVID.

Now go take your meds.

Awfully late in the game to be finding a new place to go.
