As I’ve said now several times, criticizing her about how the team has played or the rotations or whatever is completely fair. I don’t think criticizing her for not starting a player that had never started a single game in her career is fair. They are not the same thing.Wear that with pride thenand it’s absolutely hilarious we are saying she is prioritizing winning over anything when she plays this whack system and players that continue to give lack of effort and quit.
if you wearing that jerk title with pride also accept the follow up “unable to make adjustments after halftime” award as well![]()
your award is a title and 9 out of 11 L’s

He will ensure he gets in the game, and in the post game he will talk about how much those players mean to the program because they push the others to be better. He will highlight their importance to the team not because he feels like he has to, but because he believes it. That’s a huge difference, regardless of how you badly you want to spin it.So he should start Grant?
I have a question for you, Under Pat, Holly, or Kellie, was there ever a Lady Vol senior (who was healthy) that did not start? As I’ve said now several times, criticizing her about how the team has played or the rotations or whatever is completely fair. It’s about the principle and we all know that. But like you said if your not sentimental and an emotionless robot you are right lol Also, let’s be clear it just adds to the frustration of her piss poor performances. at some point even a broken clock is right twice a day.As I’ve said now several times, criticizing her about how the team has played or the rotations or whatever is completely fair. This is SEC big girl basketball, not Upward league with the Lutherans.
It's disastrous that a player that has never started a game expected to start a game against a top 5 opponent? The seniors didn't start last year, either. I'd have to look it up, but I don't recall all of the seniors starting the last couple of years under Harper, either.
Totally agree. This is the highest level of women’s college basketball against a top 5 team where we’ve lost 5 straight. Demanding, much less expecting, a player to start just because she’s a senior is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm sure you all know because you watch closely, CKC has never in two years chosen a starting lineup because it gives her the best chance to win. She's said over and over it's not the best players, it's not the best combo. Its a reward for previous performance, good practices, good attitude, good hustle etc. It's freedom her system gives her because she's going to sub them out Immediately anyway, She's given honorary starts many times. So it's tailor made to honor an Injured five year senior who for the love of God only wants to run through those blooming fireworks one tme. But you can't even manage that?Like I said, all of the seniors didn't start last year. Pretty sure Tess went through senior day two years ago and still didn't start under Kellie.
If prioritizing winning games over sentimentality makes me a jerk, then I'll wear that title. But play the players that earn it. I'd bet any amount of money that Barnes doesn't start or give Grant Hurst more than 20 seconds against Vandy this Saturday. Are we going to throw him under the bus for that?
They’re not the same. You’re 100% correct on this, but when we are driving by the car wreck, we all slow down to look because it’s impossible to turn away. We’re seeing things that wouldn’t normally be issues and that’s what happens when you’re a Lady Vol basketball team that has lost 8 in a row. The scrutiny. The discourse. The media narrative. It’s all only going to get worse from here. Buckle up.As I’ve said now several times, criticizing her about how the team has played or the rotations or whatever is completely fair. All do Respect to KW. She knows how starters are determined. & if she couldn’t win the start in practice either then why should she start just because she’s a senior? I do wish she could have gotten in the game but I also understand the coaches have to put their best on the court & in a close conf game while you’re on a losing streak it’s gonna be hard to appease a player that doesn’t get regular mins in that situation. As a player if you want to start you earn that start. It’s not just handed to you.Exactly. In my experience, all most people want to know is what is happening and why it is happening. Maybe you could've explained you're not starting her because it wouldn't be fair to deviate from your formula, but you have a conversation about it before she goes to social media with hurt feelings.
Tess Darby, two years ago. Wasn’t planning on a 5th year, went through senior day and didn’t start.I have a question for you, Under Pat, Holly, or Kellie, was there ever a Lady Vol senior (who was healthy) that did not start?
Notice she thanked everyone except the coaches. What’s missing here is that the highlighted part of the statement, it sounds like there been issues going on, and this was the breaking point, it wasn’t just about not starting.

I mean she literally said that in her post. It was this incident and more.I'm going to hold my tongue on part of what I'm thinking about her quitting because I feel like she's been put through other crap -- making this the straw that broke the camel's back.
She does. We all do because as I've said above, CKC has been telling us how starters are determined for two years. Has nothing to do with trying to get the best players on the floor. It's strictly a rewards system. Perfect to honor a senior who just wants To do the pre game introduction once. All do Respect to KW. She knows how starters are determined

Also if her confidence in getting a win was so thin she was afraid 90 seconds was going to make the difference, that speaks volumes. And spoiler alert she **** lost anyway.
It's bogus to compare to last year. Tess and Sara started many games so had many firework opportunities. Also even though they didn't start on senior day they were guaranteed to play. So this situation is much different.
And for the love of God, do some of you need the roof to cave all the way in on your head? , Not keeping Barker and Talaysia Cooper aboard the bus is one thing. But Kaiya Wynn?
CKC very well may pull this ox out of the ditch in the tournaments or next year and I truly hope she does. But those refusing to see this season so far as an unmitigated disaster That won't stop giving just floor me.
Again, I know you know this. Caldwell has de emphasized the relationship between who starts, who's the best player and who gives the best chance to win the game constantly since she's been here. Has said countless times it's used more as a reward system.Tess Darby, two years ago. Wasn’t planning on a 5th year, went through senior day and didn’t start.
I don’t have time to sort through all the Box scores from every senior day, but perhaps I will tonight. But I’m certain it happened before that year as well. Pat had the luxury of starting whoever she wanted because players that stayed four years were typically starters anyway, but her teams were so much better than everyone else that you could give up a player for a minute or two. Caldwell was trying to win a game against the top five opponent.
That’s exactly what I mean about extreme water carrying for Caldwell. Automatic haters? I thought if we could agree on anything it would be dont be mean to Kaiya Wynn.
For me, it’s about my love for Kaiya and what she stands for way more than the slightest feeling I could ever muster for Kim Caldwell.
Also, folks looking to criticize CKC are not exactly on a scavenger hunt looking for reasons. The worst month in modern LV history is covering that quite well.
It’s a statistical rewards program…Notice she thanked everyone except the coaches.

Quick question and first I apologize cause my memory ain't what it used to be.Tess Darby, two years ago. Wasn’t planning on a 5th year, went through senior day and didn’t start.

Yes in this case the stats are five years of her life, hundreds of practices, long months of arduous rehab. and two times buying into a new coach. That deserves the honorary start if it means that much to that player. And it's total BS that those 90 seconds would have affected the game in any possible way. It’s a statistical rewards program…
