Shelbyville Times-Gazette: Blog: Rodgers has my vote

In my opinion, all signs point toward Miami Dolphins defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers.

He has seven years NFL coaching experience with defensive whizzes like current Miami head coach Tony Sparano and legend Bill Parcells. While recruiting is not the most vital hat Rodgers would wear, wouldn't be nice to have a coach on staff who's been living in the talent-rich Miami area the last two years?

Thats cool, but he still isnt a name that recruits in my opinion would even know who he is. Hell im a titans fan and I dont know the name of our defensive coach. All i know is he was hated at the begining of the year. Iif the guy has never recruited before how does that give him any advantage at all in miami even if he was the defensive coach for the dolphins. Iits not like on his days off he went and watched high school football games for 7 years. Who knows. He could be great. I just dont see a connection.

agreed. the only possible advantage would be the kids in the area who followed the dolphins... he could then talk about what he did in coaching their favorite playa s

I like this guy myself but it's looking more and more like Joe Barry from Tampa. I would rather have CLT as DC than Joe Barry but as of yet CDD hasn't called me up and asked me my opinion :)

I can see another advantage that surprisingly wasn't pointed out by the author. Getting a guy from Miami, whose defense has to face the spread/wildcat, etc. everyday in practice could be very beneficial in slowing down the likes of FL, Ole Miss, UK, etc. That being said, is it smart to hand the reigns of our defense to someone with no experience as a DC? I personally would feel more comfortable if they brought Rodgers in as DL coach and promoted CLT to DC. Thoughts?

What position did Kacy play at TN, O or D line. From Humbolt a West TN connection, may help with Memphis recruits. I would rather give Lance Thompson the DC job and bring Kacy in a DLine coach? Would be a good addition to the Vol staff.

The connection is that he is a UT Alum and would more than likely dedicate his heart and soul to this program. You can't ask for more than that.

I was talking about the connection he may or may not have with high school kids in Miami while he's been a dc line coach for the dolphins. Had no clue he was a vol. But then again it dosent matter if he was or not. Kippy browns retarded ass left 3 weeks later and Steele turned down like 400,000 more bucks. It's all about change and attitude.

Kacy was a good player for UT-----OLB---DE if I remember correctly. I still like LT as DC and Kacy on the D-line----with Al Wilson as LB coach. Man---that sounds GOOD!

Just a realist. But if it makes u feel better I can start popping off untrue facts and tell ya he's the best coach out there and were gonna hire him. You feel better now. You'll thank me later.

Just posted in another thread that I like the idea of getting Rogers. I love it. I would prefer getting him and elevating lance to the coordinator position so we can retain thompson.

Seriously? Jim Washburn is probably the best d-line coach in the NFL and Dave McGinnis was a former head coach at Arizona. Then you have Chuck Cecil at d-coordinator. He got a lot of pub early this season when the Titans started 0-6.Marcus Robertson, a former Titan, is the secondary coach.

Kacy was the DC at Arkansas before he took the defensive line position at Dallas. If I remember correctly, Arkansas had a killer defense while he was there. I work with his brother and he told me that Kacy's son is a senior cornerback in high school that has offers from all over the US. He is committed to Miami to be closer to his dad. (The family stayed in Dallas when Kacy took the job at the Dolphins so their son could graduate from the high school he started) If dad takes the job...we could have another cornerback on our boards. He is a 4-star according to Scout.com

That reminded me of an discussion I had a few weeks ago with a Clemson fan. I was sitting beside a dude at the Panthers/Saints game, and this guy claimed to be the biggest Clemson fan ever.
I said, "oh, that's cool. I went to high school with Coach Brooks's daughter, Tara. My wife used to be good friends with her."
He said, "uh, our coach is Swinney, not Brooks." I explained who Coach Brooks was, and he said he had no idea who any of the coaches were other than the head coach.

this wouldint be a bad move. rem guys, everyone who is flipping out about not finding a DC yet, Georgia just had a DC coach search and was turned down by everyone... and UT IS alot more of a rebuild than gerogia. i say we go to the NFL (not like we have a choice) like gerogia had 2.

Sounds like Gator fans. Most just like them cause they win.

One time i had a customer come into my business and he was wearing a UGA hat. Naturally as a college football junkie i engaged in conversation. I mentioned something about Georgia and he said he was a Gator fan. I said how come he was wearing a UGA hat and he replied "Cause i like the colors". WTF?

I can remeber being in a freshman english class with one of our offensive linemen. He came it to class one day wearing a Gators cap. I died a little inside that day.

We don't need kids from Miami, they wouldn't be a good fit. Not all bit most. We need to go deep into Ohio, pennsylvania and Indiana. These are the pottential half backers that enjoy our state and would be a great fit.
