Incredible that in year 5 for Butch we still have so little quality depth. You can say the same for other positions.

are we THAT thin at defensive line? Do we not have 2s at defensive tackle? I'm sure they and others were absolutely gassed on about half the GT snaps, if not more.

He was pushed around all game against Ga Tech. It's hard to believe was a previously rated a 5 star prospect. The same can be said for Kongbo. I was really disappointed in both against Ga Tech.,

The Vols need to find some defensive lineman that are hungry rather than just standing there and watching.

You seem to be assuming that those of us who are calling KMac out are doing so because of the GT game. That would be wrong. The guy really hasnt lived up to his hype and has done very little since arriving at UT.

Dont know if you keep up with recruiting, but when KMac committed, he was supposed to be a Haynesworth type of player. A disruptive force in the middle that would shore up our DL. The guy absolutely dominated at the opening taking home MVP honors. The guy was an absolute BEAST in HS. But so far, he has been a bust.

His hype coming out of HS + his production so far= huge bust. Dude needs to make way for someone else. He is slow, cannot get penetration or stop the run. He is a huge bust at this point.

I saw KMac get penetration near UT's goal line. He got into the backfield, stopped, and for a blink of an eye he and the ball carrier stood motionless in front of each other. Then the GT player darted around KMac's right side. Instead of putting his right arm out or turning and pursuing the ball carrier, KMac just stood there with about 90 yards of empty field in front of him. Realizing what he had done, he threw his forearms down in frustration. He had whiffed, and he was still doing it, just standing there. I'm no heavy weight football genius, but I can say that I never saw a player do anything quite like that. Year before last when three DBs had Florida's Callaway surrounded on that fourth and long play that he converted, they just stood there flat footed until he ran a half circle around them, but at least they turned and pursued.

It's a new year and I'm not going by last year. He obviously has his body in the best shape since getting here to play that much

but...

The problem isn't that he played 85 snaps, the problem is why he had to play that many.

One more time, a true bust does not see the field, has a career at it's height on special teams. A "bust" does not start his sophomore and junior season and plays>80 snaps in our season opener. I can understand people not being happy with KMac's performances, but the kid has played to much football to be a bust, it's first grade time silly willy to suggest it.

I'm kind of under the opinion that K Mac knows he is going to be set in life regardless of how far his football career takes him. He's a great kid who comes from a wealthy household and will be fine in life regardless of whether or not he is a bust. Haven't seen anything from him yet that lives up to his 5* rating.

I think this is a fair opinion, KMac has not performed to date as I expect him to on a consistent basis. That said, he's not a bust, Dontavious Blair was a bust. Bates is very close to being a bust.

The problem is he played 85 snaps as well as the rest of our DL. Also the alignment of being off the ball was adjusted to by simply running trap plays that essentially became an automatic 4 yard gain on alignment alone. DT's should be playing 40-45 snaps a game at most. There's not any 300+ lb DT's going to have anything in the tank after that many snaps.

I just watched 10 mins of highlight footage and guess what I saw? They ran away from Khalil all night.

On one large (opposite side) run he was still one of the first defenders to meet the ball carrier. On their deep pass play Khalil was the only guy in the backfield with two defenders hanging on him. Which side did they run to for their 2pt conversion...away from Khalil.

All that despite the dude playing "half motor" as some of you would have us believe.

On one goal line possession they did run to his side he missed, but was in positon for a potential play despite cut blocks.

This post makes entirely too much sense. That play where he whiffed he did penetrate and just barely missed sweeping the Rb's leg with his arm. You could see he was upset and the fire in his eyes. KMac looks much improved and all this bust nonsense will be little more than an afterthought.
