JV team?

I just read an article about UNC and it said that their coaches played a scrimmage game against a team of students that included a former UNC JV player....

So my question is, do major universities have JV teams? If so, why do we never hear about them?

Very few anymore due to reduced scholarships in the past 10 years.

I think many keep them and fill 'em up with walk ons. We kept a freshman team that played a lot of JV teams preseason

I know from keeping up with recruiting that West Virginia keeps a JV team. Brent Vinson racked up over 350 total yards against them if memory serves me right.
