Im not trying to bash the guy at all, I just don't see why any big time program would want to offer him the job instead of going out and finding someone a little more proven. I understand the talent he has to work with isn't top notch by any means, but IMO he hasn't been extraordinary at all this year, so I say let him go look at whoever he wants... Everyone who fears him leaving Im curious as to why?

Are we to assume that in you could do an amazing job in your FIRST YEAR on the job also? You sure talk like it.....

The two-minute defense against North Carolina was terrible. The defense for the rest of the game was outstanding. Take out the two minute drill, and we held them to 4.6 yards per play in regulation and 3.0 in the last three quarters (they average 5.7). And with our talent.

Given that our nickel package is two freshmen and three sophomores in the secondary, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and expect improvement in the one disaster area.

Solid post. I agree.

I thought there was a drop-off from our defense last year and this year. He inherited a team coached by probably the most respected NFL defensive coordinator around in Monty Kiffin. I'm just not sold on him yet.

If you had told me at halftime that we would hold UNC to only 3 points in the 2nd half I would have taken it.

The only thing Kiffin did for UT was look stupid against the spread and cost Berry a record or two and some awards . Chavis is better for the SEC.

Let's be realistic. Berry never had a shot in hell at the Heisman. He won the Thorpe and that was about as it was going to get for him as far as awards go.

Look at the personnel Wilcox had to work with. You guys act like he had several All-SEC LBS and DTS...well he didn't. I think that he did a damn good job under the circumstances.

It is difficult to respond to sheer variety of ignorance you just posted. So what that Kiffin coached this team last year - what does that have to do with anything. I really do not like the vitriolic exchanges so common on this board, but you sir are an idiot if you do not understand that the drop off in our D was related to our lack of SEC level DT's and not our D coordinator. The two DT we thought we had in August, by the way those were the only two, never played a meaningful snap all year. We played a RS freshman that was a walk-on and a converted DE both weighing in at less than 260 - oh and let us not forget the epitome of journeyman Victor Thomas who was also there.
What would you have expected? That is what gets me the most about your comment, did you see who played for the D this year. Was Wilcox supposed to use Ayers and Thomas and still stack up against 320lbs Olines and come out on top. If you think so you have never competed at any level in any sport. It just so happens our D lines up against Offensives that are also interested in competing and winning.
Think about your post's for a second prior to posting them Please.

Last year we were much better. Berry and Williams....There is an obvious drop in talent. I wish Wilcox had last years team. I would take him over Monte any day. Give wilcox time to find playmakers. GBO!!!

For someone who doesn't like vitrile posts, you sure spew a lot of it.

We looked better on defense last year not just because of players but because the scheme was better. I think what MK was doing on defense was a better system then what Wilcox has used in the past here. In total defense this year UT is ranked 10th in the SEC and 70th in Div 1, last year UT was ranked about half that. I understand we lost a couple of DT's this year, but there were plenty of injuries two years on defense when MK was here.

Ask yourself how many players get drafted off of this D unit? then remind yourself that there were two first rounders on last year's.

Okla I would agree last years team performed better but you also have to look at the difference in talent levels between the years. Experience also should be a major factor.
