Last week, I voiced my displeasure in Wilcox's defense. I've changed my mind. I like it. I think he did a fantastic job Saturday. Unfortunately, our secondary isn't very good.

A little safety help on the deep ball would of been nice. Actually would have changed the game. jmo

Only giving up 20 points to UGA (who scored 42 on USC jr) should have been enough to win the game.

TN's problem is the lack of any running game, not the Defense.

Some pressure up front would make that secondary look a lot better. I don't understand why people seperate the two. They go hand in hand.

Yea, playing two deep and watching them rape us in the run game would have been incredibly smart.

I would rather have some pressure, make that any pressure from the front 4.

We need better overall defensive team speed, badly. It was painfully obvious that Georgia had faster players than us.

Bigger and faster usually means win. They need better speed at linebacker for sure. Painfully slow there.

This

Everything plays off of each other and it starts up front. No line play, no pressure on the QB = more pressure on UT's secondary and back seven. Get some pressure and squeeze the pocket would also result in some hurried throws and maybe some interceptions...jmo, tifwiw, smh, lol, FBI, CIA, VFL, etc....

I agree. Imagine if JJ didn't throw his season away? We'd be much better.

Youth at every position and the lack of running game is a much much bigger problem than our D. Blaming our coaches this year is stupid.

I'd think the pass rush would get better when we get some true DT's in the line up not DE's that we have to play there outta necessity.

I was worried about the defensive side of the ball and not the offense coming into the season. It's now the opposite. Our defense isn't great but I'm more concerned about the offense going forward.

I still think I would go with our backup center and move Stone to left tackle, his natural position. Maybe the running game would improve and keep the defense off the field. Good grief, try something. I also don't think our OC has much imagination. And for God's sake, quit trying to run wide. Our line is way too slow for that.

The people saying our D sucks are idiots. With Bray out, the D is now our shinning star. Other than very few big plays that we have given up in SEC play, the D has been fantastic.

idiots? hell Jim Chaney could have found open receivers with as much time as Wilcox gave them, and after the 2nd deep ball over the head in a close game, we should have made an adjustment . They talked for 2 weeks how Rainey was Florida's game changer, yet we allow him to get pass after pass ...I'm thinking your the Idiot!

absolutely correct. you will get beat bad in this league without a running game. We didn't play a very good team Saturday night. unfortunately, Tennessee is a worse team.

Overall, our defense is pretty good. Always seems to be one area each game that breaks down. Against UGA, it took 5 deep balls for us to realize that we need safety help over the top.

BUT the one thing our defense lacks is a hard-hitter. When you watch SEC defenses, you see big-time hits! We haven't had that in a while. Other than Berry (and Jackson briefly), we haven't had guys who strike fear into opponents like other SEC defenses do. Some would say our defense is "soft." I don't think that. I just think they're not mean enough.

At some point either this yr or next I think A.J Johnson has to move to the middle. He is just painfully slow on the edge. I think he could be a force in the middle.

And the good news is we are going to get better at DL and most other positions on defense...

I agree and I think he does move to Mike next year...but Santos may have something to say about that.

I disagree. The secondary can only cover for so long. Need to pressure the QB and until the team builds depth on the dline they will struggle. Youth is going to be a problem until they have more time with a college strength and conditioning program.
