Justin Wilcox now available. Possible DC?

Cal just fired him. He was a decent DC here. Wonder if he would have any interest coming back? I know he is a west coast guy but wasn’t sure if it was a culture shock that had him go back west or didn’t like the HC (Dooley)

I remain convinced that had he not left Tennessee, Dooley would have won 10 games minimum in year 3 with that offense. Especially with Wilcox having a very experienced defense in year 3.

He prefers the west coast but it wasn't complete culture shock. His mother is from Georgia.

Correction.....Not that it makes and difference but for accuracies sake I'll correct myself. My sister who worked with her ~ 1969-1972 said she was from Jacksonville, FL.

💯 a take all day. Would be an immediate upgrade but more importantly a coordinator who can adjust and scheme all game long

Too much of a west coast guy.
Hes from there and played there, but he’s been around. He’s going to be very much in demand and I don’t think for a second he’s going to limit himself to West Coast jobs. How many good west coast DC jobs will be out there? Maybe there is a smaller program he could get a head coach job at, but not many good programs looking for DC’s as of now. (I said good programs)

Going to be a ton of DC jobs elsewhere and I’d say he may be able to have his pick.

Best DC we’ve had during the Post Fulmer era. Unfortunately he’s a West Coast guy 100%. SC would be wise to pick him up.

Cal is crazy. He’s done a good job considering he loses his best players every year due to NIl.
Wilcox’s best defense here ranked #36 nationally. Banks defense ranked 7th nationally last year. So how was he better than Banks?

Come on now brother, Cal doesn't have no where near the talent that we have on defense. Banks best defense played 2 good offenses and got handled easily

For sure. He’s really good at scheming and can do more with less. He had well rounded defenses here with guys like Brent Brewer starting. In the long run it was a blessing he left cause imagine how much more damage Dooley would have done to the roster if he was given an extension after that year. Would be a great hire if we have an opening.

I seriously have doubts we have any open positions. Chances are about 5% in case someone decides to leave. May as well stop pondering.

As many jobs as are open, Justin Wilcox may get another HC position. He could be a sleeper hire by Oklahoma State or somewhere like that. Of course hiring a recently fired coach can be looked at unfavorably but sometimes a program can simply get lucky like hiring a Rick Barnes or James Franklin.

Is the idle chatter about James Franklin and Tim Banks being big buds a bunch of smoke..??
they have worked together before, Banks cam off Franklin's staff to come to Tennessee, but don't know how close they are... I'm sure if Franklin offered him about 3 million he would listen... Franklin has a lot of coaching connections... the guy he replaced at VAT came off his staff..

Seems to prefer the west coast and AP kinda hinted that the only way Banks is gone is if he chooses to go (i.e. head coaching opportunity).
Which means he will be here as long as JH is. Which also means we will consistently either be out of the playoffs or right there on the fringe, but never really really flirting with anything much beyond a first round appearance.
