Justin Wilcox (merged)

I have to agree on how well they are coached up. This guys gonna look at 3 star and four star players on our roster and lick his lips. I feel real good about this.

Yup, until he looks at the schedule and sees the national champs from the past FOUR years, and that easy out of conference schedule with top five Oregon....... :)

I just lifted this off of a Boise State message board, TOO FUNNY!... (pay close attention to the bolded section)

"...What if he goes to a mediocre Tennessee team and three years from now they are still mediocre in the SEC? (still playing those defensive battles where each team scores less than 10 points each -- whoopee...)

Money isn't everything; especially when you're making decent cash now for this area..."

Is that not the sign of a stout defense?...Holding your opponent to 10 pts or less? Football is a game comprised of offense, special teams, AND defense. I work with a W.A.C. homer, and he kills me. He turns a game off if the combined score isn't 60 at the half. Sheesh! Just thought I would share.

For those of you that caught the 5:00 presser, was there much talk about the DC hire, or was it all about NSD? I'd love to see me some Wilcox in Orange.

the local highschool kids play a flag football league in the summer, he might enjoy that more than real football. Too bad all those boring sec teams keep winning that boring national championship game.......

Hey, Vols. I'm a Bronco, but I want to give you congrats on hiring Coach Wil. He's a good guy. Single. Dedicated to the job. Fishing and Football, that's it. So hook him up with some good spots, and you're set.

As I've watched that guy here, I guess the biggest thing that stands out is his creativity. We don't have the best defensive talent at BSU, but this is a guy who plays with the pieces he has on the board.

Fiesta bowl was a fine example. BSU typically runs a 4-3 defense. There's been several that say BSU 'added a 6th defensive back' vs. TCU. That's not exactly right. Given certain TCU formations, BSU rotated either a defensive end or safety to OLB. But I think they played it as a pretty conventional 3-4.

Wilcox, in 6 weeks, installed a new defense and taught new positions to at least 3 players. It was a brilliant piece of coaching and TCU didn't have a clue what they hell they were looking at. Wil has balls, for sure.

Whoever said he'll be licking his lips to play with SEC talent, yeh, that's right on. You can only scheme up New Mexico State so many times, right?

Anyway, best of luck to the Vols. Your program is the sort of institution that BSU aspires to be in, oh, 100 more years of success... we'll be watching and wishing the best to you.

Now here's praying to the Lord Almighty that Coach Wil doesn't take our secondary coach (Yates) with him...

Peace.

thanks for the post. If it makes you feel better the defensive staff is full, except for dline.

nice post. but you have it backwards. currently, UT aspires to have the success of BSU. top 10 rankings, BCS bowls, embarrassing mighty OK with less "talent" -- quite impressive. keep it up.

It would seem we might have a bitof an upper hand against Oregon. He obviously did what his part was against them for several games.
