Justin Wilcox (merged)

He's young and by all accounts has a "fire in the belly" to succeed and make a name for himself. What a concept! After years and years of coaches coasting on auto-pilot, this is a refreshing change.

Pleased with the hire!

Ok, serious question. Did the BSU recruits knowing he was leaving or was it like oh snap we losing our coach. If they didnt know and signed thinking they were playing under him and he does come here thats really not any better than him leaving before NSD. Yes, it screws the school kinda but atleast the guys dont sign an LOI thinking he's going to be there. Then again, if he leaves the school he screws the rest of the team. Really no win win situation here, huh?

Wouldnt it be nice to have a coach in waiting in case Dooley does leave when Mark is fired down at GA. Not saying it'll happen but if he does a great job it would be kinda different than all of this crap we've had to go through the last 2 years.

Tenn faced 2 offenses ranked in the Top40 (UF #6, Auburn #16) and finished with the #22 ranked defense.

Boise St faced 6 offenses in the Top40 (#2 Nevada, #7 TCU, #9 Idaho, #14 Hawaii, #17 Fresno St, and #33 Oregon) and finished with the #14 ranked defense.

nice post! i think what makes him stand out in my mind is that he can adapt as is open to trying new things. Highly ranked scoring defenses tend to be coached by DC who take risks and put their people in the right place at the right time.

I'm all for this hire so don't get me wrong about what I'm about to say but Idaho got shut down in their bowl game and most of these teams would score maybe 10 points a game in the sec. I like the oregon, tcu, utah part but idaho and hawaii are not good teams they just play in weak conferences.

any word or confirmation on Chuck Smith joining staff? I know it has been rumored for over a week now and most thought we were just waiting on the DC position to be filled. With that done, should we not hear something on the D line coach? What is the word?

Rucker just said he thinks Wilcox that got a 3 year deal worth $650k per year, was making $215k.

Nice little raise, I think we hired a great DC, hopefully he sticks around for a couple of years before moving on as a HC

This guy has had success against the stronger teams they have played, you know those teams with all those 3,4,and 5 star recruits. Im not positive but I would think he did it with at best 3 star talent. Im sure with the players we have on the roster he will find talent at least equal to what hes used to playing with. Can only imagine what he will do with the talent we bring in next year.

Wilcox already was considered a rising star in the coaching profession when he took the Boise State job as a 29-year-old.

Now 33, his reputation soared last season when the Broncos held Oregon and TCU to a combined 18 points in two high-profile games. Those teams averaged a combined 74 points per game, finishing in the top eight in the nation in scoring.

Looks like he might be a big help in the Oregon game.

He had success with lesser talent against more talented teams once or twice a year. Yes they had three stars, but I bet they out recruited the other teams in their conference. Not the case here. Cdd pulled a miracle no. 7 class and was still fourth in the sec. We have signed one dt for theclast three years. We have seven oline on the roster right now. We lost 22 scholarship players in the last year not including the graduating class and our juniors leaving. We are critically bare at dtackle and oline and close at linebacker. He'll he may have to come up with a new alignment just based on the ridiculous roster we have.

you guys do realize that the uga president and the dooleys don't get along....... At all. That's not a big worry.

Cdd-sabans recruiting coord.
Joseph-cdds recruiting coord.
Lance T- two time recruiter of the year and has been on the same staff with cdd. Cdd would not hire anyone as dc that doesn't want to work with these guys.

Plus, lose Thompson and Chaney and we would not have this recruiting class. It would be in the toilet, like Tommy tuberville- he fired all the tech coaches and lost the class. We had alot more to lose than tt.

Looking at the coaches page, Joseph raises that question in my mind also.

Thompson is such a homerun on that page, he should be a requirement of any DC hired.

Maybe CDD knows Joseph to be like Thompson in that regard. He is the man paid to make that decision after all.

BEST HIRE POSSIBLE. Congrats to Kiffin for keeping his last minute signees under the radar. I mean that. But I wouldn't trade the Wilcox hire for his entire 2010 class. They held TCU to 10 points in a BCS bowl??? Anybody in here think Monte would have done that? Here's the BEST PART... From 2005-2009, Boise State didn't sign ANYONE with higher than a 3star rating, most of whom were 2 stars. That's a scary coaching staff up there in Idaho.

I really hope they hire Chuck Smith!! I really think he will be one heck of a rec. for DT'S! Seeing how many he has worked with in the league!

I have to agree on how well they are coached up. This guys gonna look at 3 star and four star players on our roster and lick his lips. I feel real good about this.
