Justin Wilcox (merged)

What does he have to work with....... He has no depth, Walk-on's, Undersize players and not a bunch of collective elite talent to have an effective defense. We have a MAC level starting unit. I wish people would quit thinking that our talent is similiar to the great defenses over the past 10-15 years

DE- Jackson- Transfer
Miller True Freshman
J. Smith- True Fresham
Ayers- Walk on DT

Reviz- Knee Injury recovery
Teague- Converted DB 4 games under his belt
Gordon-DB- 4th game
Austin Johnson- played FB last year

What are the options? Our backups are scout team members at our school.

Sykes
Bowens
Bohanon
Folks
Nigel Mitchell Thorton
Askew

Wolf
CJ Flemming
Rod Wilke

Patience is a must for the next 2 to 3 years. This year's recruiting class will help moving forward. I am a huge vols fan, but I am realistic, I hope others can be realistic as well.

Thank you for proving his point.

Your welcome but still shouldn't be excuses for the poor coaching the last 2 games especially on the defensive side on the ball.

But then again, Mark Richt is one of the best recruiters in the S.E.C. and signs top recruits every year and still can't coach or get it done!

Name 10 guys on UT that would listen to UAB pitch them about playing there. They dont have better athletes. they let their players that can make plays, make plays. we decided to throw it 100 times and see what happened.

Wilcox was at Boise long enough to have his whole defense made up of players HE recruited. They also had servicable backups.

Just saying, they lost a ton to the NFL and the newbies for them have just stepped up so far.

I think personally what has everybody so pissed on this board about Wilcox is that once he was hired, he was known to have a killer defense with average players, walk-on's and no 4 & 5 stars "Boise" BUT field great defenses with what he had. Nobody on this board doesn't reconize that we have severe depth problems and inexperience at all positions, BUT i think everybody was expecting better coaching then what we have seen so far. Boise has no depth either and no 4 & 5 star players but they get after it and blitz so much if you watch them it is not even funny. Not trying to bash DD, Wilcox and Chaney but some of the plays have me going hummmmmmm????

4-3-6.... Nobody's upset. It just sounds like crazy talk.

Dooley's base D was a 4-3 at La Tech. and Wilcox's base D was a 4-3 (4-2-5 in 2009) at Boise St.

I am still confused as to why people are assuming we are going to a 3-4 base defense. Has Dooley stated this? I know that at Boise Wilcox's base defenses were always 4 man fronts.

Im starting to wonder if I even want Wilcox here. I mean I know talent, experience, and depth have all been factors, but I haven't seen anything from his defense that has impressed me so far. We had a solid defensive performance against a mediocre offense in LSU. Hopefully this weekend will change my opinion about him.

Haha... show us something D-Coordinator when you don't have talent, experience, or depth to work with. Makes a lot of sense.

He can't rush 4 because we can't get pressure on the QB... when he blitzes it leaves our CBs on an island, and we don't want them to be in that position because they keep on getting burnt. He has tried multiple things this year to find someway to get pressure on the QB, but they don't work because 1. Chris Walker is our best DE on bad knees and still has 0 sacks 2. Sending blitzes from the LBs is pointless because we have possibly the slowest, smallest LBs in the SEC (not a good combination), and 3. Our DBs are not that good outside of Jackson.

I think Wilcox is doing just fine for his first year in the SEC and for how young, therefore inexperienced he is. I think a lot of it has to do with personnel not the coach.

I understand, but all im saying is there was alot of hype surrounding this guy before coming into the season. He hasn't necessarily lived up to that hype yet imo. Maybe in time our defense will get better, but it hasn't looked good so far.

You understand that we don't have a lot to work with but expect a great defensive product on the field? I don't think you do understand.

I brought up talent, depth, and experience as factors. I also dont expect a great defensive performance, just an average one would be great at this point.

If we had average talent, average depth, average leadership, or even average experience I would agree. Unfortunately we have none of the above and this is the SEC. Wilcox absolutely shut down a potent Oregon offense last season with average defensive talent. Are we to believe that he just became an idiot overnight or are there other factors to be considered?

I admit from his reputation I thought he could make chicken salad from chicken ****, but obviously not. I still see the ****, but no salad.
