Which is nuts considering we threw cash at him last year after being on staff one year. The no buyout gig that is.
You're making some big assumptions. If Wilcox could get a decent head coaching offer or even a safer defensive coordinator position, he should strongly consider taking it.if i were wilcox, i'd stay one or two more seasons here and then get a major HC position. with what he is developing, he would be a very, very sought after candidate for many big programs in a few years.

What is shocking? I can't imagine any school placing a buyout on a coordinator from taking a HC job somewhere else. I'm sure there is a liquidated damages clause if Wilcox makes a lateral move to another DC job.
As a rule, buyouts are only associated with lateral moves, are they not? This, it goes without saying, isn't.
Guess I hadn't thought about that but it would make sense. My issue is yes he's been pretty good but having a guy that is obviously wanting to leave in a rebuilding phase just seems like a dicey proposition.
Maybe that's why DD wanted to keep all the coaches he had he knows Wilcox will jump at any decent offer?
