Justin Martin possibly gone (update: not gone)

Whether it's today or in a month or in two months, he's not going to make it here long-term.

Edit: For the people that go back and pull out old posts to show where I'm wrong, you can clip 'n save this one. If I'm wrong here, I'll happily eat my words on his senior day, but that's my opinion.

This has been a bad week!!

Also like I said, you only bring the bad news... when was the last time you predicted a commitment for Tn?

Maybe so. But thank you anyway BM. Keep the inside goodies coming. Skeeter can handle the good news.

Butch: "Marijuana usage won't be tolerated in this program. I know some of you smoke it and I'm letting you know that it had better end now if you want to keep playing football here. No excuses"

Martin: "Nah coach, eff that. Smoke weed erryday"

I mean... ... ...what?!

There are some things you just don't mention to your football coach.

I'm sure that's what happened (blue font)

Maybe Butch saw what happens when you let the tail wag the dog ala Kelly Washington. Once you lose the respect of your team and are seen as weak or prone to look the other way if the player is talented enough, you've lost control and respect. Very hard, if not impossible, to get it back. Never let one player, no matter how needed or talented, become bigger than your program or allow that individual to become a cancer or distraction. Not saying Martin is, but speaking generally.

Yeah, exactly.

Butch is sitting on a bit of a powder keg here, with so many players new to the program. It takes time for team values and culture to sink into the beliefs and value systems of new members. There's a cultural adjustment that has to take place, an internalization of the new standards. With 64% of the team in the program a year or less (I don't think it's a coincidence that Butch recently cited that stat), that means there's a whole lot of adjustment still happening.

Big leadership challenge to keep the team coherent and moving in the same direction together with all that stuff going on. And that's even before little mini-eruptions happen, like the 3 in the past couple of days.

Wishing Butch & Co. nothing but success weaving their way through this challenge. Hoping the younger players mature quickly. Go Vols!

More likely bucking a curfew or something like that being imposed. I doubt anyone is stupid enough to outwardly argue with the head coach on marijuana use but I get surprised daily with the stupidity of some kids.

1. I'm not sure what "MO" means. Is it some sort of abbreviation for moron? If so, who abbreviates a five letter word?

2. Furthermore, I'd learn some basic punctuation before I started calling people ignorant or morons on the Internet.

3. We obviously disagree on this issue, but I don't see the need to get so defensive and bring name calling into it. You have your opinion. I have mine. What's the big deal?

lol

Here's to hoping you eat your words.:)

Seems to me that Martin was with big Charles and didn't like getting called out in front of the entire team for making a poor choice.

Nothing else to see here

Another possibility for sure. I'm wondering if there were more players than just Martin called out?

There probably were more being called out. Im sure there is a large percentage of our team that smokes. A large percentage of almost all CFB smoke regularly. Most prospects at the NFL combine admit to having smoked pot during their interviews because they won't be believed if they deny it regardless.

As long as they're smart enough to pass their drug tests (which basically just means not smoking for a month beforehand) and can avoid the law, who cares?

Dude needs to have Maggitt and JRM in the squad he trusts. Whether he appreciates it or not, they reportedly did more to help him than anyone else on the team.
