Martin said he’s trying to prove to his teammates this offseason that he has “their back at all times, in all situations in the game, off the field and on the field, and they can count on me, pretty much.”

He said he’s also simply trying to “keep my head down, grind every day, get better.” And he said the Vols allowing him to speak with reporters following Thursday’s practice is just an example of their improving confidence in him. “I’d just say the fact that they let me meet with the media, I mean, just shows they trust me a little bit more every day, and our trust is growing, pretty much,” Martin said.

Hopefully the light comes on for this kid cause he has as much talent as anyone on this team. With a good season he could seriously be a first round draft pick in 2018. Physically he's got what the NFL is looking for in a CB. Size, length, speed, and athleticism.

Justin Martin has a chance to be special.

It's the truth in this case. Everyone around the team knows Martin has first round talent. The issue has always been him having the right attitude and motivation to put in the work to know what he's doing when he's on the field. Warren might be exactly the type of coach he needed.

The team can count on him "pretty much"????

Is that like most of the time? Or some of the time? Or once in a while?

Jeez. Think it's time to pull his OK to talk to the press already.

Or; maybe it speaks volumes on why he hasn't done much so far in his career.

I, like you had "pretty much" jump out at me. Tells me he is pretty much wishing he can pretty much play the game with a pretty much acceptable mind set.

Not very decisive sounding.

Lest we forget he is only ~21. This is how kids talk these days. They say "like" and "probably".

Speaking in a very definitive way isn't something that comes around until adulthood. They are kids guys, that's how they talk.

Osborne will be game 1 starter.. Always go with the younger player if considered equal to SR

What on earth leads you to believe they are equal? Osborne hasn't even played a meaningful down yet in his career.

Martin is physically more talented and has more experience. As long as his head is on right he will be starting at CB.

Martin has the body to be a good DB. i'm hoping he benefits greatly from some improved coaching and technique.

i think y'all are reading too much in to the "pretty much" deal.

That last part is a big if.

Sometimes a kid's senior season brings out the best in them. But I'll believe it when I see it with Martin. He's been a headache since he's been on campus

Yes, Martin has all the measurables, but I haven't seen anything on the field to make me think he can be a solid starter, much less a first round draft pick. At this point that's just a ridiculous thing to say.. or write.

But I'll root for him and hope that he proves me wrong.

Go Vols!

You missed the part where he said "all times, in all situations in the game, off the field and on the field." He only said "pretty much" at end of the sentence as a form of punctuation, meaning "and that's pretty much it." You completely misinterpreted what he was trying to say.

From what I saw, he did everything but turn his head around to find the ball. He was stride for stride but got called for penalties for not finding the ball.
I think he is going to have a good year..

Let the man work and keep his nose clean. Man a kid saying he's humble(keeping my head down and grinding)is now bad I see. We need him and Osbourne to take over the CB spots. Those two have the talent to do well for us. Praise these guys that are trying to do right and not get in trouble.

And the "Pretty Much" talk is just a form of speech. Some of you need to get out of the house more. The young guys all use it with the media. We've just never heard him talk with the media before now. A lot of them say pretty much but you all are just picking out BS to ridicule. Smh

Well since we're talking about it.. he was weak against the run because he can't get off blocks and he's not physical enough at the line. Possibly just needs more time in the weight room and better coaching. I expect both of those to happen.

And the part about turning your head to find the ball.. I never once saw Martinez practicing that with the db's, and we saw Coach Warren doing it in the first practice clip.

Like I said, I hope he proves me wrong and I'll be rooting for him like heck!

Go Vols!

I'll praise him once he has kept it all together throughout the offseason and the 2017 season. I'm not saying he can't or won't do that by any means. But it's a fact that his maturity issues have been a detriment to the team and/or held him back since he's gotten here. Hopefully this being his last year is an eye opening experience for him and he finally figures out how to put it all together on and off the field.

I agree that the pretty much thing is not a big deal whatsoever.

I'm pulling for the young man. If his production comes close to matching his potential ?! He could be special.
