let's have the kid play against a couple teams that matter before we start crowning him a monster...not saying he won't be one, but jury is still out..

no doubt he was good in highschool.. but that alone does not = CFB success, it takes a ton of hard work and good coaching to make that happen.

He's got good coaching and hear he's a hard working kid. He's gonna be a beast.

He is a good a player but i bet he won't be at USCjr for 4 years & it may not just be leaving early for the NFL. Oh wait I forgot where he plays for a second. He's good no matter what he does.

To reiterate I clearly stated "plenty fast enough", especially if he's out in the open and in top gear. (note the much more impressive 200 time vs 100) All I'm saying (and empirically demonstrating) is that, comparitively speaking, there's nothing "special" about his pure speed...even on just our own roster. He's pretty special by most of the other measurables though.

He's football fast. Guarantee you he would outrun Rogers with the ball in his hands. Reminds me of Deion Sanders...only as fast as he needed to be each and every time.

While a big Hunter fan the one area I think people may need to temper things a bit is pure speed. He isn't THAT fast, at least not in the true "burner" sense. The best official times I know of for Hunter coming into UT are 10.99 for the 100m and 21.62 for the 200m. That's by no means slow (especially the 200m) but to put things in perspective Zach Rogers has officially gone 10.80/21.48 and Devrin Young has gone 10.70 in the 100. I point this out as neither of those guys, while acknowledged as fast, are generally thought of burners by our fanbase.

Hunter is tall, can jump like a gazelle and is plenty "fast enough" to become something pretty special at WR. He still needs to put in some more time at the training table and weight room though IMO.

You do realized we clocked him in 4.3s in the offseason right.

I think justin's leaping ability is what gives him his "freak" status. Being fast too just adds to the freakiness.

Clowney has done pretty well so far. Through 4 games the true freshmen DE has 4 sacks (tieing him for 4th in the nation). He is second in the nation in creating yards loss. He has 16 tackles on the season.

He is probably the third best defensive player for South Carolina right now after Melvin Ingram and Antonio Allen.

He is playing in a system were they are telling him to just get after the quarterback right now, even on plays that might be runs or screens. They are asking him to get into the backfield and force the opponent's QB into rushing his decisions in order to make a mistake.

South Carolina is sending Jadeveon from every spot along the line to keep the QBs heads on a swivel to find him. This has paid dividends for Devin Taylor, Melvin Ingram, Antonio Allen and the odd corner or two to beat his man in the other battles.

One thing they haven't had Clowney do yet is drop back into coverage and you probably wont see that against Auburn...I know they are doing this in practice and they want him to get better at reading/recognizing the plays as they develop.

Clowney has not been overrated to this point and his speed into the backfield has certainly been a boon to South Carolina's passing defense (QBs can't sit back and pick South Carolina apart all game now).
