Thats good but not quite a performace that would make someone skip football for the olympics, right?

probably a performance that pushes him to skip football and get focused on improving for the Olympics.. he wants to excel at both. to do that, he likely will have to spend a year focused on track if he truly wishes to go for Olympics.

Looks good. Hope he keeps with football vs. track though!

correct,

Triple Jump is terrible. No way for the Olympics.

High Jump. No way. Unless he jumps at least 7' 4" consistenly. Dime a dozen jump at least 7' 6".

Long Jump. Would be his best bet, if he can jump 27' consistently.

Based on my experience in track

Don't gloat. He's still just a kid and still physically developing. Like you, I want him in football not track and field but if he evolves into Olympic material during his UT years, all power to him.

all are decent jumps, but lets be real 7th, 10th, and 19th place respectively is nothing to drop a future nfl career for the olympics. As he gets bigger strong and faster his jumps will get better no need to drop football:loco:

he's only a freshman! i don't think he will give up football for track either, but he is a track stud

Wonder if his track numbers would improvetof that's all he worked at. With all the talk about his mad track skills I would have guessed he would have been in top 3 at least in long jump.

Take it from a college track athlete, its hard to be at your best every meet. He is probably worn down from football and track. He just didn't have a good day, LJ was an average day for him, HJ he jumped way better in high school, and TJ was an off day. TJ is a really hard event to be consistent at, trust me.

He tweeted the other day that he was tired of doing track... it wasn't fun anymore

It is very difficult doing what he did. We have to remember that last year he competed in track deep into the summer before he came on campus so getting burned out would be more than understandable!

Thanks for the effort Justin, it takes to compete in two sports.

Those were his results without him training full time to compete in track. I imagine he would be a lot better if he was a track only athlete. Personally i hope he does whatever will make him happy. Whether its track or football. It sucks we put pressure on a 18 or 19 year old kid to make a decision that decides what the rest of his life is for our selfish reasons.

He will have to make a choice. To be a dominant WR, he needs to develop upper body strength that will make his body bigger than would be ideal for the jumping events in track.

A friend who will be a freshman at Carson Newman had the same long jump and high jump numbers as a HS senior that Hunter just had. He understands his future is football and not track.

It is very tough on your legs competing in high, long and triple jump in the same event. I imagine that is why his triple jump was so weak, if he is not properly conditioned for jumping right now this is two fold, I speak from experience.

It's not fun when you are use to winning and being in the top 3 and going to this. Just an off day like everybody has. He'll bounce back. It's hard, hard, hard work to get more distance and height in those events and he knows it.
