I believe that Hunter is able to get a medical redshirt cause the injury happened before week 4. Can anyone confirm this, and will Tennessee do it?

I know the redshirt rule has changed, because it's no longer two games for regular redshirts.

it's one play and the season is burned.

Won't matter anyways. he is going pro after next year.

I agree it probably wont matter, but I hope he stays at least 2 years.

Wouldn't matter a bit. If he returns healthy, there is no way he is around 5 years. Not even close.

He will not need it.Next year is probably his last year,He'll be a first rounder.

Ok. I'll answer the question. Yes he can medically redshirt. I don't know if they will bother to fill out the paper work but they may. Regardless, it won't matter.

To get a medical redshirt you can't compete in more than 30% of the games. So yes, Hunter would be eligible and TN will probably do it since it saves him this year like he never played.

As everyone else has posted though, he'll probably turn PRO after next year anyway if he has a good year. He wouldn't want to risk tearing the same ACL again in college. Just this one tear will probably cost him several draft spots in the 2013 NFL draft.

A medical redshirt would give him eligibility through 2014. The odds of Hunter being here in 2014 are astronomical.

Why not use a medical redshirt just in case he decides to comeback? Even if he doesn't use the extra year of eligibility.

Correct - whether he gets a medical redshirt or not he was probably going to declare himself eligible for the 2013 NFL draft anyway. Now with this injury I would think he would be even more so now. Looks like we'll only get 1 full season of "Bray to Hunter".

God forbid, but suppose he gets injured in 2012 and 2013 as well, exponentially damaging his draft stock. Filing for a MedRed this year will allow him to come back at least for 2014.

For his sake and for the program's sake, I hope he will be back at 100% next year. This may be an opportunity for him to not only heal the knee but to put on a little more weight/muscle.

Hunter WAS going to go pro after next season, I doubt that is the case now. The first year after tearing an ACL is always iffy. He won't really be at his top gear until at least 2013. He'll now have to stay to raise his draft status back to where it could have been pre-injury.

Hunter's sights are on track and field. This injury may have him second guessing playing football in the future.

This is a hypothetical question

Does a bowl game count towards the 30% of the games that someone can miss?

so with a 12 game season 30% is 3.6 so I assume that means that can play in 4 games.

in this scenerio, even with a Conference Championship and Bowl game the number would only go to 4.2

but let's say that we only had an 11 game season. 30% is 3.3. So three games is the max, but if you add in a conference championship and bowl game the number is now 3.9. So the total would be 4 games.

Do bowl games and SEC championships count?

Maybe this has been broached in one of the other threads, but is Hunter in line for a medical redshirt as a result of the injury or has he played too much this year?
