I'm not sure how publicized this is, but U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is at UT today for an advocacy competition at the law school. He gave a lecture a few hours ago in Cox auditorium and will be attending the game tomorrow!

Anyways, during his lecture, he mentioned that he had met with the football players and talked to them. Not sure if this will have an impact on the team during the game, but it sure does seem special to have a sitting Supreme Court justice on our side.

Go vols!

That is a pretty special thing no matter what your ideology happens to be. I believe Scalia was the last justice to visit UT. I hope our guys at least have some reverence for who he is and what he represents and didn't just ignore everything he said.

I was at Thomas' speaking engagement and thought he was very engaging. I'm sure he inspired the football team.

He said that while he is a Husker fan, he is a Vol fan for this weekend!

I saw this at the bottom of a Rivals article and thought that it was pretty random. Now it makes a little more sense! lol

When I was in law school, one of my professors was a former law clerk of Justice Thomas. My class got a behind the scenes tour of the Supreme Court building, including the upstairs gym and basketball court. We got to go into the private dining area of the Justices where there are two paintings: one of Marbury, the other of Madison. Pretty cool.

After the tour, Justice Thomas came in and spoke with us for about an hour, answered questions, and posed for pictures.

He is a huge sports fan -- especially of the Dallas Cowboys. This was back around the time the Cowboys were getting into trouble with strippers/at strip clubs. Thomas explained it by saying Michael Irvin was clearly a fan of the performing arts.

Finally, he told us he had a brand new Corvette that he liked to scoot around DC in. Told us he had personalized license plate that said "RES IPSA." That is part of a latin term used in the law to stand for "the thing speaks for itself."

He was a completely down to Earth guy and made a point to personally interact with each person in my class.

Some attribute the president as the most powerful man. However, the Supreme Justices trump the president for that claim. Pretty cool he's gonna watch the game. Big ups to whoever got him to come to campus.

He does not follow Notre Dame? I wonder how he became a Nebraska fan... I read his biography and it said nothing about that.

I, for one, am disappointed. I thought Justice Thomas might be some promising new recruit I had never heard of.

Wow. That's too cool. When I was in law school there, all we got was Ralph Nader.
