Doug Gottlieb also just roasted him on ESPN. Dubbed him partially responsible for the potential sanctions on the football team and the basketball team. Also called him foolish for bringing all this to light 2 days before we tip in the tournament. And finally, called Raleigh a HORRIBLE hire for the baseball team. However, he did say that Pearl needs to go and probably won't survive the weekend.

Kudos, Doug. I agree with everything.

Hammy moved Blackburn to the position he was in with Kiffin, in order to make sure that UT documented everything Kiffin did and to research things we was doing, IIRC. Hammy didn't lie to the NCAA, so that's BS as well. Todd Raleigh maybe the second worst hire he has made, as Kiffin is the #1. Pearl does need to go, and should have been gone, when we learned about all this.

Just my 2 cents.

The fact that the media is even talking about an athletic director shows how bad it has become for UT sports. Fire Mike publically and immediately

It is funny that writers think that they know more about how to run an athletic department than an actual AD who has run a profitable collegiate program. Yet, when people write blogs, they want to tell everyone that because they are bloggers, they don't know anything about what they are writing about and have no credibility.

Yah. I've never really heard an AD being bashed like this. He's as good as gone!

ESPN is sweating Hamilton to take attention away from ohio state. Hamilton has done what was expected of him since he was hired.

Running a profitable athletic department? One that was profitable before he even showed up.

Part of the job is serving as the public representative of UT Athletics. As this past week has shown beyond doubt, Hamilton can't even be trusted to perform that basic duty without wetting his pants.

If Hamilton is in trouble, then it is because he lacks the ability to do a good portion of his job in a professional manner.

Yep, it's a simple job. They should actually just eliminate the position; or maybe the whole department. Ask Vandy what that is like.

Mike Hamilton running an even more profitable athletic program during an economic depression is even more impressive-all while embarking on an aggressive facility building campaign.

Hamilton did the right thing in making his announcement when he did. It had to be done to prevent a possible ground swell of emotion from UT fans. It sent a message to the NCAA that the UTAD is sincere in abiding by the rules, and it got the ball rolling in it's coaching search.

In the end, we will not be punished as hard without Pearl as we would have with him, we get all of the bad blood out now rather than later, and we are able to aggressively identify and pursue our new coach quickly.

I will go further - Hamilton only said what everyone knew: That bruce would be evaluated at the end of the season. I feel like people expected Hamilton, when asked about the pearl era, to say "He will always be our coach, for-ev-er."

ummm....Hamilton didn't have to say anything. he could have taken the high road and let the tournament play out. Instead 90% of the fan base want hIm gone now as well as all the sportswriters. as a fan are any of us happy with the state of the mens programs? Football, Bball, baseball? Who is responsible for them? should we just be happy the school is making money and not winning?

I didn't realize that allowing a top 15 football program to descend into irrelevance was one of the things he was charged with doing when he took the job. Thanks for the info though.

High road? He was starting the coaching search. This 90% of the fanbase crap shouldn't be part of the argument either. A large segment of the fanbase wanted fulmer to stick around until he died. I couldn't care less what sportswriters think.

Anyone who is defending Hamilton imo is doing it for arguing's sake. As many have said and I agree why support the coach all year and make an announcement a day before the biggest game of the year? You could see it in our players, they had no motivation because they and their coach were crushed. I blame Hamilton for the football program, I blame him for the basketball program, and the baseball program.. All are going down hill and who is the link to all the trouble.. one man. His name is Ham and he doesn't go HAM. :)

I suppose this means that you want dougy d back in that office or someone like him that will let facilities deteriorate, promote a slouch to head football coach, and undermine all other sports?

Reaching pretty far, eh?

No, not at all. You said Hamilton had done everything that was asked of him as AD. When he took over, we had a top 15 football team. Since that time we have become irrelevant, and it are still at least one more coaching change away from being competitive again. Surely that wasn't the expectation. I realize there are some outside forces at work with the hiring of personnel, but ultimately it comes back on the AD when bad hires are made. He did the right thing by cutting Fulmer loose, but has made two awful hires since then.

The criticism of Fulmer at the end of his tenure is warranted and very much deserved. However, how could anyone argue that we would have been better off in the 90's under a different coach? We only lost 8 games in the second half of the decade. You literally can't do much better than that. I'll agree with you that Dickey neglected other sports. However, football is the cash cow that drives the rest of the AD, and Hamilton completely let it go to ****. All he seemed to care about was having nice facilities, even it we had horrible teams playing in them.

Hiring Kiffin was not a mistake. That was a package deal. NO ONE knew the series of events that would take place that eventually took him out of Knoxville.

Pearl was a home run hire at the time; however he can look no further than his bathroom mirror to find the one to blame for his departure.
