Just some news that I thought I would pass on

just news i thought i'd pass on...Gruden is not going to be the next coach ..nor is Bellotti...both have plush, high paying gigs and don,t want the headaches of a over-patient fan base...next Charlie Strong ..has Louisville playing decent ball..not going to come to Tn..and listen to fans calling for his head after 2 years...Peterson..not leaving Boise...Mullen not leaving Miss. State...Petrino...UT would never hire him..would lose more by doing so...now we get to Butch Davis......or maybe Cutcliffe....don't think either want to risk two years and this fan base ready to back the moving truck up to their door....so who is this NEXT coach...if you want to help recruit...stay off these boards.....

Dumb post you dont think every bigtime football school is the same as ut? you dont think florida or bama fans would be doing the same thing rifht now? every good competitive coach wants to be at a place where 7 and 5 eill get you fired becuase those r the elite schools. fireronzook.com=urban meyer

I honestly don't see the upside of doing this during the season. Why not let the team finish the season, then make a change if we feel it best. It's not like the new guy is going to start next Monday, and we are miraculously going to turn the season around
If you have some big prospects that are not currently coaching (ie., Gruden & Tressel), it will give them a running head start on putting their staff together and recruiting.

Hope we don't pull a wvu and hire whoever takes over and wins out @ the end....

I am also a poster on VQ.COM and there is a very reliable poster over there that when he mentions something, he is normally correct. He stated that if Dooley loses to SC Haslam has agreed to pay Dooley's buyout and the first years salary to our new head coach. If they lose to SC Dooley will be fired on Sunday or Monday. Take it all as you wish. :hi:
We will soon know!

Let's be clear... The poster is saying Haslam has agreed to pay, should we lose to SC, the full $9.355 million in termination buyouts -- $5.645 million guaranteed buyouts to Dooley and Chaney and the $3.71 million in conditional buyouts to the other assistants + the $3.5 to $5 million for the so-called "name coach", thereby committing to provide a total somewhere between $12.8 to $14.3 million for a new coach. Is this Haslam's agreement?

Buying out Derek Dooley and staff could cost as much as $9.3 million over four years » GoVolsXtra

Haslam is not hurting for money, and if he is willing to make the investment it can be done obviously.

The logic behind it is this.... You go ahead and fire your old coach to make room for the new one. Hire this new coach and obviously he isn't going to take over the team mid-season so you let one of the assistants be the interim HC. Now your new big name A+ hire of a coach can spend all of his time evaluating the staff and more importantly he can recruit 24/7 and save this years class.

Cant see how this saves anything. Still spells 3 years for another rebuild whoever we get. recruiting will not be stellar under an interum coach at all. The process will have to start over. if it happens it happens but dont expect The next 2 years to be awesome. Its the third year of a rebuild we should expect results. IMO

Hard to believe anything about a coaching change on here. It's all specualtion, pure and simple. He will probably lose to SC, win out, be in a bowl game, be good to go for another season. As long as fans fill the stands and the money continues to come in, we will have to put up with Dooley for another year.

This, One of the first intelligent things I have ran into today.

the reason you do it during the season is obvious. to get a jump on the 4 other job openings that are going to occur after the last game of the season. are you guys worried this season is going in the shi*Tter? that's already happened.

3 years? if you get another dooley. there are a lot of good coaches that could get results immediately. we just have to find one. that's up to the talking heads.

I see it differently. IMO the quicker we boot Dooley, bets odds of saving the upcoming recruiting class. This all hinges on having a good coach ready to take over though.

Just for the record, CPP was not fired in mid-season, as in 'clean out your desk by Monday afternoon.' MH announced Fulmer would not return in 2009, but Fulmer coached the rest of the season. They lost to Wyoming but then beat Vandy & KY (which is not a certainty this year, with or without Dooley). The players carried Coach Fulmer off the field after the KY win, no small feat in itself.

My recollection is that everyone was pleased we had so much lead time to find the best coach out there for 2009. When Kiffin was hired, many on VN said, in so many words, "Is that the best we could do?"

If Coach Dooley doesn't find a way to win this weekend, he really doesn't have another high quality SEC opponent on the rest of the schedule (although right now I wouldn't say that we have any "sure" wins given the way we're playing). Since that is the case, it'd be another one of those "wait until next year" type of situations.

It's a tough spot. I like Dooley and would love to see him beat the crap out of S. Carolina and run the table the rest of the way, but I've been burned too much over the past few seasons to have any expectation of that happening. Doesn't mean I won't be going crazy and wearing my Orange the rest of the way, though!

I do believe that the results of the S Carolina game will decide Coach Dooley's fate. If he wins, I think he probably stays next season unless he then drops 2 of the remaining games or has an embarassing loss (Troy, UK). Unfortunately, the financial situation at UT might provide some constraints ... hey, it's the economy, right? Either way, we're in a tough spot. This is where leadership comes into play. Making tough decisions in tough situations helps define a leader's legacy. AD Hart is in the spotlight as much as Coach Dooley.

One thing to remember is that a new coach would be stepping into a much, much better situation than CDD did talent-wise. I do think that if CDD is let go after the SC game, Hart will be very close to closing a deal with hopefully a home run hire. However, he has said that he won't make a decision until after the season is over. I have to believe he means it. Doesn't mean that a new coach isn't already lined up on the sly.

Anyone who thinks Dooley will be fired because of a loss to SC is delirious. We are not expected to beat them. Now, a loss to Vandy, KY, Troy would be different.

Take a look in the history books a loss to sc has been the dagger for a lot of UT coaches.

Not when the HC should have been fired after the UK game last year, and everyone involved in the HC'ing decision, is ready to move on.

According to who? You and every body else on here has INSIDE SOURCES!!!!! Everybody is a bold statement, I don't think that you can back up, if you can please prove it. Everybody involved in the hiring and firing of UT coaches wants him gone 100% huh?

Dooley should have been fired after the Kentucky game last year. No excuse losing to a WR playing QB for Kentucky on 3 days of preparation.
