• 1st year as HC
• Brand New Scheme
• Butch’s left over players
• Took over an 0-8 SEC team

What did you expect? National Title? SEC Championship?

Still way too early to tell if Pruitt is the right man for the job but giving up already over his 1st game is the most ridiculous thing ever.

Stop hoping for an instant fix because it’s going to take time to get us back on a Championship Level.

His recruiting is going very well so far and he’ll eventually have the players HE specifically wants for his system.

If Pruitt is the guy, great. If not, oh well.

But stop the “Oh Woe is Me!” and move on.

I expected a more fundamentally sound team that was not capable of winning this game but managed to de-emphasize its weaknesses and give a prideful effort.

As for recruiting, a certain low level of performance will damage the final results of this vital upcoming class. Promise has to be shown to sell to the current important recruits.

We thought Butch knew talent but I'm not sure he did. I know he didn't develop anyone but we look slow and to be honest just not good. I do believe we will improve just not enough to make a bowl. With great recruiting the next 3 years I think we will one again celebrate. At least ylthat is what I'm telling myself to keep sanity.

We need every receuit in the 2019 class and more. Showing up as uncompetitive in our losses, and not showing continued improvement each week, will cause attrition to the class.

Highly rated and recruited players do not want to go to programs that can't help them reach the next level.

I didnt expect to win at all but I thought they'd cover the spread. I didnt expect them to embarass thrmselves like they did. This is a hugely expensive coachingbstaff so youd think they coukd tackle better at least.

We did get beat by a ranked team who looked like they deserve their ranking, on both sides of the ball. at least we didn't lose to a nothing team and we weren't shut out.

Not an ideal team to start with a new coach, new offensive and defensive schemes and a relatively young team.

We did show some resilience and I didn't see any quit.

We were also a lot less predictable like passing on 1st downs and the grapefruit sized gonads to go for it on 4th and goal.

I was more embarrassed by the lack of sound tackling and the multiple blown coverages that could have resulted in more touchdowns for west Virginia, I was on the hotel elevator and told the wv fan good game he preceded to tell me "It was only tennessee I'm more worried about every team in the big 12" that's about as bad as a swift kick to the nuts.

The only thing this game confirmed is that we need a purge of players and to recruit recruit recruit and recruit some more

We have gone thru this four different times with in ten years. We should be accustomed to coaching changes
He will be given time to build his staff and his roster. If the team progresses each year, then he will remain here. If not he will be like Dooley and Jones and we will hire a new coach and start the process all over again

Tennessee coaching searches are comical to say the least

Thank you.

If it works out, it works out.

If not, rinse & repeat.

All the negativity coming out is likely a response to all the overwelmingly positive posts about how we were definitely going to beat WV before the game. Then this happens and a wave of negativity washes over.

I have to admit I chuckle at the "what did you expect" posts after this game. It's not that I disagree, it's because that should have been the attitude before the game.

Good Lord you people sound like a broken record. Go back to the Dooley threads and the Butch Jones threads. Same crap different head coach. Same situation too. First, second, third and fourth choices for coach turn us down and some dumb sumb*tch is just ignorant enough to say yes. They become the "savior" of UT football right up until kickoff of the first game because of 30 second video clips of players practicing against air and know nothing "sports reporters" talking about how good this player or that player looks against nobody. This University is where head coaching careers go to die since Fulmer. If Pruitt doesn't turn this program around it's over. This program is out of chances. We've been bad for a decade. We've been the laughing stock of a weak SEC East for some time now. If this coaching staff is a failure you might as well pack it in.

I believe it was stated during the game that the Vols have 9 seniors on the team and only 5 play. CJP got hired last year very late in the recruiting process. Anyone thinking the mess that our new HC inherited was a quick fix obviously does not have a clue about building a program for a team that went 4-8 and did not win one conference game. I'd simply ask to give our new HC some time to recruit his players. Yes, I understand that fans are impatient, but let's not bail on our HC yet. Give him some time and I think we will be rewarded with a team we can all be proud of.

I didn't expect to win this game, but I did expect to see fundamentally sound football, especially on defense.

I've never expected Pruitt to fix all of the problems in 6 months, but we are still struggling with the basics. Oline still can't execute a blocking scheme, no one tackles well, we get no pass rush, DBs lever look for the ball, and still give 10 yard cushions.

I can't imagine these problems, which were apparent on all of the 2017 game film, weren't apparent in the spring and fall camps.

I am not saying anyone should be jumping off the CJP ship, but Lane Kiffin took the crap pile that Fulmer left behind and over-performed in many cases, absent that Ole Miss debacle. You could see signs that his coaching was having an impact, and that was with some horrendous players (walk on OL)

Lane Kiffin has some less than stellar talent at FAU and they got handled much worse than we did today. People there is no way you can judge this coaching staff in a game one product. That’s just dumb.
