I am like Jayson Swain. We did play exceptionally well in the game but I am not sure Iowa wanted to be there. Also, as I said before, Vanderbilt and Kentucky probably would have beaten Iowa due to team speed. Iowa would have finished last in the SEC East this last year.

It was also evident their fans did not want to be there either as the Gator Bowl was completely orange from where I was sitting.

I definitely don't think Vanderbilt would have beaten Iowa, and I'm not sure Kentucky, in their end-season form, would have either.

Both Kentucky and Vanderbilt had better team speed than Iowa on the day we played them.

Maybe, but it doesn't mean they were better teams. Iowa showed flashes of being a pretty good team that game, we just deflated them early. I don't think Vandy/Ky would have stood a chance against them.

Just so we're clear that that we're remembering the same team, Vandy lost to Temple by 30, beat UMASS by 3, and beat Charleston Southern by 1. All 3 of those were home games. Vandy was a hot mess in a dumpster fire last year.

Are you talking about the same Vandy team that took us to late in the 4th quarter?

Illegal forward pass even though it wasn't a play from scrimmage and the closest receiver in the area was the turf who caught it. :loco:

Yep, but Deserves a Rule change -- in simple terms, when a player chooses to release the ball, this should be treated like a forced fumble, or a live ball under legal backwards lateral play, as the ball remained in bounds -- a fwd out of bounds lateral or pass would simply result in same 1/2 dist penalty; but this one should constitute as an illegal pass (with penalty, from point of "pass" as was the case), ONLY if recovered by, or caught, in the air, by the receiving team which "passed" it, otherwise, in any direction, under or overhanded, when remaining in bounds, result would be a turnover for/ to the kicking team which recovered it. On Kick offs.

Remind me how Vandy did against Temple, UMass and Charleston Southern.

(Vs Temple - L 7-37, Vs UMass - W 34-33 and W 21-20 Vs Charleston. All at home.

Speed. Haha.

Stupido.

Vandy played tough against the Vols that day, just like a lot of other days. Go back to the Manning years and look how close some of those Vandy scores were.
(last 3 games were won by a total of 19 points)

As far as Kentucky...they were blown off the field. What are you talking about?

I love hype. Iowa wasn't that good. They only beat two bowl eligible teams (both 6-7). Also they lost to Iowa St. Iowa St was the worst team in the B12 last year. Iowa St. even lost to an FCS team. However, we did look mighty fine.

They lost to Wisconsin by 2. The same Wisconsin team that beat Auburn in the bowl game. I wouldn't dismiss the victory over Iowa so easily. I think many of you are discounting how much better a young team can get over those practices leading up to the bowl game.

It wasn't about Iowa being bad that day, it was about how good our young Vols had become. Get ready for a huge season fellas.

Our team was ready for the bowl game. They had an excellent game plan. Kudos to the coaching staff. Fortunately, we got them down early and they played right into our hands. We looked like the teams of old. All phases of the game. Our OL did enough to make the run game efficient and that set the tone for Dobbs to do his magic.

Spoke with Coach Jones at a Golf Tourney couple months back, and he told us that he received a call the next day from the GM of the stadium congratulating Tennessee on the win and that history was made. Never in the history of the stadium did they EVER sell out of hotdogs or whiskey! Coach got a kick out of that!

He also said that the director of security was blown away about the Vol walk. He looked at coach and said that he had never seen anything like that in all his career and that they were not prepared for this. CBJ told him not to worry and enjoy.

GBO!

The difference in speed and talent was so apparent within the first 5 minutes of that game. It was just obvious Iowa was about to get run as soon as we got the ball. I definitely think Vandy and Kentucky would have played them tough, and I think Kentucky would have won pretty comfortably.

One thing to consider when comparing the Iowa game to the Kentucky / Vanderbilt games..

The Vols had the same team speed with Kentucky and Vandy, but in preparing for Iowa, the team showed us how they was ready for the bowl game, as in, they prepped and was ready for Iowa.. when a team is prepared for another team like the Vols was for Iowa, the team speed is greater, because the team plays loose and plays with confidence. This really showed with the Iowa game. The Vols flat out executed their plays.

I'm not saying the Vols was not prepared for Kentucky or Vanderbilt, I'm saying that with the experience and confidence they gained from those games with the time off until the bowl game with Iowa, they bought in and prepared. This should play dividends for all the big games in 2015 IMO.

Wow, forgot how good we looked in that game. I love laying the wood to the BIG TEN or is it 11 or 9. I lost track with the realignments.

Hurd is gonna do some damage this year.

Is it football time in Tennessee yet?:dance2:

The announcer kept comparing Hurd to Marcus Allen.
