I've come back to my home in Virginia for winter break, and let me tell you, the Hokies are as cocky as ever.

So far, when I have approached Hokie fans asking how they think the game will be, I've been met with this sort of response:

"We don't care about this. We want to be in a BCS game, this doesn't matter. We shouldn't be playing an unranked team like Tennessee anyway."

I, personally, am more offended by this sort of remark than if they just straight trash talked, which is always more fun. Their excuse for not traveling is that they've been to Atlanta twice already, and they don't want to come see their team play an unranked squad. This reeks of fair-weather fanhood.

I'm ready for my Vols to come out and lay a humbling smackdown on these fools, so they learn NOT to disrespect a program that has an infinite amount more tradition, respect, and pride.

Go Vols, win this one for us Virginia folk, as well as all of Vol Nation.

I live in Va also, Winchester. Soon as our opponent was announced i bought a aerial flag just to piss off the VT decal hoard that lives here. VT always seems to start the year with great aspirations but they just do not ever finish....been a hokie hater for decades. V,B

Sounds like the kid who always says he'd kick the other kid's butt if only he would fight him. Then once he finds out the fight is on, it isn't as important as it was.

It's put up or shut up time.

I think that it's great that some VT fans feel sleighted by a BCS bowl snub and feel "stuck" playing a lesser opponent in the chicken bowl. There was a certain team that was very near and dear to our hearts which felt the same way in 2003 and got greased by an overlooked Clemson squad. I hope the entire Hokie nation feels that this is a bowl unworthy of their presence.

The chokie fans are scared of us. It should be a good game with the Vols comin out on top.

PERFECT.

Nothing better than calling a Gobbler in, seeing him all cocky and fanned out, full of pi$$ & vinegar...

And then comes the shot.

Can I get an AMEN from Tennessee Tom?

I grew up 10 miles outside of Blacksburg and remember when they would let you into the games for free just to have people in the stands, this was in the 80s.

What kills me (friends and family still live there) is they think VT is a storied program and national power, they have won nothing will win nothing and have a Dbag for a coach (yes I have met CFB a few times and can't stand him). A few Big East and ACC championships mean nothing, the one shot they had with the best team they ever will have they got embarassed. I am confident UT will smack VT in the mouth and win by at least 14.

If not see you Christmas 2011 Mom.......

All I hear is about the UT violations and how much better the Hokies are than us. Why do think they deserve to be in a BCS bowl with three losses? My favorite quotes I have heard from the Hokie fans is "we will win a national championship before you do." Go Vols, we will show them what real football is all about.

The only way VT ever wins a NC is a freak year where the SEC, Big 12, and Pac 10 beats themselves up in conference and VT sneeks in against a Big East team.

Highly unlikely even then, as Tech will start slipping once Miami and FSU hit their strides again.

Too late. That race was decided a long time ago. We have six now. We'll get another one before they ever get their first.

To win a national championship you have to recruit well. The recruiting rankings will back me up on this. Va Tech has had two top 20 recruiting classes ever, and not a single top 10 class. They will never be able to convince players that have offers from Bama, Tennessee, USC, Texas, Florida, etc. to go up and spend 4 years at an irrelevant program in the middle of nowhere. Not possible. Any Tech fan that thinks they will ever get a national championship is delusional at best.

Exactly. I don't think any of the top 5-10 high school players in Virginia have ever signed with a Virginia school.

After reading the boards for quite a while, this matchup has FINALLY got me to register.

I love where I live in SWVA, but damn; these arrogant, ill-informed Hokie fans really got it coming. For the past 10 years -- and not before, I might add, beacuse they had no fanbase -- they have done nothing but talk baseless trash against UT. It seems they like raggin on the vols more than actually rooting for VT.

I and my friends (Vols and hokies) have always said we'll go to a game whenever they play, no matter where it is. We've got 8 Vols fans making the trip. Meanwhile, the Hokies (Who like to sport "Tuck Fennessee" shirts!!!) only have a couple of making the journey. I find that very telling -- and pray we hand them a hearty dose of SEC smackdown!

Personally I am both a Hokie and Vol fan. I follow them both thru the season and just recently moved back to VA from Knoxville. I think it's going to be a great game and will be rooting for both teams.

hey Shenvalvol -

I'm in Berryville - hi neighbor.

Also - GO VOLS! I can't wait to serve up a warm cup of SHUT UP to these folks. Tech fans don't travel well, ACC fans in general take football at a whole level below SEC fans. I am looking forward to the GA DOME being a home game for the Vols. Despite the differences in the teams, I really do think that Lane and Monte will make the wisest use of the month of preparation and will scheme an unreal game.
