we had a good D this year and didnt win many games much less championships

Ask OU and TT their perception of defense, 1 lost a NC the other was a top 10 team and lost to the 25th ranked team because of defense against them and lack thereof from them. A productive offense with a solid defense wins lots of games.

Florida won because their defense shut down one of the most prolific offenses of all time. I guarantee that CUM or Stoops would have no argument with that statement.

Yeah, but the other side of the ball put up 40-60 points every game....

CLK is an offensive guru, as is Chaney. Gran is one of the best RB coaches in CFB. Reaves could turn out like Cock fans say or he could be a very good pickup. Lane obviously thinks enough of him to hire him when it's obvious he will not settle for junk assistants. Cregg is very versatile and I like having an OL coach and TE coach that have experience with both positions. That creates good chemistry. Every hire can't be a knockout regardless. Assuming we're gonna take Gran and cut Drayton, we have two spots remaining. Most likely that means one on O (WRs) and one on D (DBs). There are plenty of good candidates left to fill those slots and I'm confident we won't be disappointed by the final product on either side of the ball.

BTW, I think Chaney is the most underrated hire on this staff.

could they be holding on letting Drayton go for recruiting reasons?

Drayton's already made it longer than any of the others, and certainly longer than most of us thought he would. It kind of leads me to believe that he might actually have a chance of surviving this coaching change with his job intact.

When you have an offensive minded head coach this tends to be the norm.

took the words right out of my mouth. Yeah, when you have a HC that is all about offense, he usually gets more defensive coaches to balance it out and be really good on both sides of the ball

I suppose Mike Leach never received this tidbit of info. I think it has more to do with Defense wins NC and having faith in creating a productive offense. In the NFL most teams believe if you can score 21-28pts a game you should win alot of games.
