We are a very conservative team and I think most of us will agree. We run and pass sideways for 5 yard gaines hoping our recievers get yards after the catch.
When playing poker the tighter you are (meaning you dont paly a lot of hands and usually only play great cards).usually yields winning results.
The Vols are the tight player of football (Mr. conservative) so if this is true. We need to sprinkle some trick plays in there ie. Florida game with halfback pass and it worked well. Where are those plays now? Our team wants to play conservative fine, but we must take an occasional risk or trick play. We are to readable.

Didn't we try a reverse in the Outback Bowl? You see how that one worked out.

I like the poker analogy. Yes, even with Randy Sanders gone, we are still somewhat predictable. I agree that we are too conservative on the field. But the more risks to take, the greater the chance of a play blowing up in your face.

We're predictable b/c it's still the same old Johnny ball. That is why I hated Cut coming back.

We don't need trick plays , and we have the same personel as the other SEC teams. We need someone who is willing to be an innovator and move the team forward. Like I have said before, under Fulmer we only play not to lose, never to win. He is extremely one dimensional, and while this style of play was acceptable in the late 80's and early 90's it is no longer.

To continue with your poker analogy, you don't "play loose" out of position. If you are going to take a stab at stealing the blinds or bluffing a pot after the flop, you do it with suited connectable cards close to the button. 7 10 of spades on the button, for example, is a great hand to raise to three times the blind because if you hit your 10 or make the flush draw you can pressure the blinds or, if an ace comes and everyone checks to you, you can portray that you have the ace, bet, and take down the pot.

However, you don't raise with 7 10 suited when first to act (under the gun) because you might get called or, worse, reraised, and have to let it go.

Similarly, you don't run reverses with an offensive line that can't pass block because you have to have time for the play to develop in the backfield and you have to have the sprinter to make it around the TE unmolested.

Right now, you've only got one or two players with that kind of juice and any defense out there is keying on them anyway.

In other words, if you want your offense to loosen up down the road, you need to get yourselves some faster guys so you can raise in good position. And you ain't in it right now.
