If you are old enough to remember pre Saban, then you will notice we have taken an eerily similar course as the hated enemy. They had a decade of horrible football with terrible coaching hires. They had the Dooley with DuBose. They had Butch with Shula, ex. Good recruiter, bad coach. They even had a Schiano with Mike Price. So be patient, our paths might be changing to the good. It always cycles, it always has in this sport. GBO

You didn't even mention their two separate stints on probation. We have had some bad coaches for sure. We've never had an Albert Means/Lynn Lang/Milton Kirk type situation.

I miss Freddie Kitchens. Anyone remember Freddie Kitchens pass to Freddie Kitchens for a loss of 10+ yards?

Bama never lost 4 of 6 to Vandy.

Frankly, it sounds a little stupid to compare us to Alabama.

Alabama went 4-9 in 2003 with losses to Northern Illinois and Hawaii. They also had to fire a coach before he coached a game because he was banging a stripper he had just met at a t***y bar during SEC media days. They hired 8 head coaches between 1983 and 2006. They had a head coach leave them for Kentucky.

Is it really that stupid?

When we are willing to pay top dollar, and have stability at the top, we will be fine. The problem is neither of those seem likely to happen anytime soon.

All true. Then they hired an NFL coach with a BCS championship under his belt. Yes, the similarities are astounding.

A lot of short term memories on here... Yes, they are proof that you only have to get it right once. They are also proof that is hard to hire a good coach. They got lucky with Saban. They had offered Rich Rodriguez. There are many similarities between the mistakes they made from 1996 and 2003 and what Tennessee has gone through since 2008... except for one - we were never buying players.

Not only that but remember 1999? Even in the midst of their down cycle they managed to squeeze in an SEC championship.

Yep. Beat Florida that year, twice.

And UT's staff forgot to make adjustments against Alex Brown and turned him into All-SEC with just one game, dropping another one to UF that year. :shakehead:
