Just how talented is the 2017 Vols roster?

2018 Potential Draftees
(Offense)
QB Quinten Dormady (Jr.) - 1st round
RB John Kelly (Jr.) - 2nd round
WR Jauan Jennings (Jr.) - 2nd round
TE Ethan Wolf (Sr.) - 3rd round
OL Jashon Robertson (Sr.) - 4th round

(Defense)
DE Jonathan Kongbo (RS Jr.) - 1st round
DT Kendal Vickers (RS Sr.) - 3rd round
LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. (Jr.) - 2nd round
CB Justin Martin (Sr.) - 1st round
CB Emmanuel Moseley (Sr.) - 6th round
S Todd Kelly Jr. (Sr.) - 4th round

(Special Teams)
P Trevor Daniel (RS Sr.) - 6th round
KR Evan Berry (Sr.) - 7th round

THIS ROSTER IS ABSOLUTELY LOADED WITH NFL TALENT. We could have 22 players drafted over the next 2 years. 13 in 2018 and 9 in 2019. IMO the NFL talent seems to be heavily concentrated on the defensive side of the ball. And this does coincides with everything we have been hearing from in camp about the defense dominating the scrimmages.

There's got to be a medical term for this, somewhere.

I'll go ahead and go on record that Dormady, John Kelly, and Kongbo will not be declaring early.

(1) Dormady has elite physical tools for the prototypical NFL QB. He's 6'4" 225 lbs. with a great arm. If he has anything close to a successful year, you can bet the NFL scouts will be salivating over him like they were Mitch Trubisky. One and done QBs are becoming more and more common.

(2) John Kelly is a RB. Typically they declare as soon as they are draft eligible. And for good reason since its the most physical position in football and you only have so many good years as a RB. If Kelly has the season I expect (First Team All-SEC/1500 yards rushing/15 TDs) then he will declare and he'll go high in the draft. John Kelly is in many ways similar to Derrius Guice a guy most draft boards have going in the 1st round right now.

(3) Jonathan Kongbo from a measureables perspective is the ideal NFL DE. He's in many ways another Myles Garrett physically. If he has a good season (10+ sacks), he'll declare and he will go very high in the draft. IMO he's our best bet for a 1st round pick in 2018. He's physically that talented.

Lolololol...Dormady, Martin, and Kongbo are 1st rounders based on what, exactly?

Especially Kongbo; for all of his physical talents this is literally his 4th year of football. He's going to need all of the experience he can get in college if he wants to play in the NFL.

There are so many backs ahead of John Kelly right now it's not even funny.

Just in the SEC alone you'd have Guice, Scarbrough, Chubb, Michel, and Webb at an absolute minimum.

I don't think you know the difference between potential and actual results

Ok this is enough for a username bet. If John Kelly is drafted in the top 3 rounds of the 2018 draft I'll take a year ban. If you agree to do the same for the opposite result.

I want your reply D4H. I'm about to do this board a favor.

There have literally been 2 one and done QBs in the last DECADE that have gone in the 1st round. Trubisky and Cam Newton.

Elite Physical Tools.

(1) Dormady is 6'4" 225 lbs with a rocket arm. Those are ideal measureables the NFL is looking for when drafting QBs. If Doramdy has a slightly better year than Dobbs had last year passing the ball, you can bet the NFL scouts will be salivating over him. I think he will have a Mitch Trubisky-esque rise this year up the draft boards. Physically from a size and throwing motion standpoint Dormady reminds me a lot of Kerry Collins who was drafted 5th overall in the 1995 draft.

(2) Justin Martin is 6'1" with long arms and ridiculous athleticism. Corners with his combination of height, length, and athleticism don't come around too often. If our defense is as good as I think they will be and if Justin Martin plays up to his physical abilities, he will go in the 1st round. His physical tools are that elite. Justin Martin is very similar to Dominique Rogers-Cromartie IMO and DRC ended up getting drafted in the 1st round of the 2008 NFL Draft. I expect Justin Martin to have similar results.

(3) Jonathan Kongbo is 6'6" 275 lbs. with crazy explosiveness. Just watch that long INT return he had against Missouri to see the type of explosiveness he has for such a large man. Kongbo is a Myles Garrett-esque athlete physically. He's gonna be a guy who will catapult his draft stock at the NFL combine. I expect him to have a successful season this year (10+ sacks) and to declare for the draft. He's got a good chance of being drafted ahead of where Derek Barnett ultimately went. In terms of measureables and athleticism, Jonathan Kongbo reminds me a lot of Jason Pierre-Paul of the Giants. Another first round pick.

D4H consistently posts some of the most amazingly stupid things I've seen in 11 years on this board.

Sometimes a like to play a game where I try to guess who starts a thread based on the title. I'm happy to say that I guessed correctly today!

A big, special year for JK and he maybe can jump somebody there, maybe Webb, we'll see, but probably not. No slight toward John, just that those guys you listed are proven commodities and studs. Tend to agree with you, certainly regarding everyone other than Webb.

That would be very bittersweet. It would be great for the programs image but If all those JRs declare then 2019 could easily be a 6-6 season or worse.

The defense will still be loaded next year. Even with all those juniors declaring early, there's a good chance that all 11 starters on defense next year ultimately get drafted. I got the following guys making up our starting 11 on defense in 2018:

DE Kyle Phillips (Sr.)
DT Shy Tuttle (Sr.)
DT Kahlil McKenzie (Sr.)
DE Darrell Taylor (RS Jr.)

LB Quart'e Sapp (RS Jr.)
LB Daniel Bituli (Jr.)
LB Austin Smith (RS Jr.)

CB Cheyenne Labruzza (So.)
CB Shawn Shamburger (So.)
Nickel Rashaan Gaulden (RS Sr.)
FS Micah Abernathy (Sr.)
SS Nigel Warrior (Jr.)

That's alot of talent and experience on defense. There's a good chance the defense in 2018 is better than the defense in 2017 (which I expect to be top 10 nationally and #1 or #2 in the SEC). In addition to the defense still being elite next year, I think our o-line in 2018 will also be elite. I'm not high on the offensive line in 2017 but I really like what we might have in 2018 when it comes to talent and experience. I have the following guys starting along the offensive line next year:

LT Drew Richmond (RS Jr.)
LG Cade Mays (Fr.)
C Jack Jones (Sr.)
RG Trey Smith (So.)
RT Marcus Tatum (Jr.)

That's 3 five-stars on the offensive line. An elite defense and an elite offensive line should help us still win 10+ games in 2018. But I do think we will probably have a hard time repeating as national champs next year. Winning it two years in a row is almost impossible. Especially after you lose so much talent to the NFL the year before.

The amount of NFL caliber talent still left on this roster is being severely underestimated. I know the media is running with the fact that we lost 6 guys to the NFL as a major reason for why we might be in for a down year. Well think again. I think we will have significantly more than 6 guys drafted next year. And the NFL draft train doesn't stop there cause we still have talent left on the roster that will also be well represented in the 2019 draft and beyond.

with the exception of QD i agree all these people are likely to end up drafted I think the projections for most is kinda high. based on what we know about them now and assuming they perform based on what we already actually know instead of what e hope. This is how I see it. Every single person you listed has the talent that they will make an appearance on an nfl roster though. and don't sleep on Colton Jumper he will end up in someones camp.

(Offense)
QB Quinten Dormady (Jr.) - has to win the job first but looking like undrafted free agent unless he sets the world on fire
RB John Kelly (Jr.) - round 4-5 unless he also sets world on fire
WR Jauan Jennings (Jr.) - 2nd round agreed
TE Ethan Wolf (Sr.) - 5th round based on comments about his softness
OL Jashon Robertson (Sr.) - 5th round

(Defense)
DE Jonathan Kongbo (RS Jr.) - round 3
DT Kendal Vickers (RS Sr.) - 4th round
LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. (Jr.) - 2nd round
CB Justin Martin (Sr.) - 3rd round purely on upside
CB Emmanuel Moseley (Sr.) - 6th round
S Todd Kelly Jr. (Sr.) - 4th round could go higher
