I'm much more worried about the QB next year than the OL. If the coaches can make a decent OL out of walk-ons and converted TEs, I have faith that they can find a solution for next year as well, since they'll have more talent to work with, even if it is young talent.

We will be a fairly young team next year all the way around offensively, not just on the OL. Besides the OL, we also lose Crompton, Hardesty, Hancock, and Cottam. We will be a very different looking team on offense next year.

Besides offense, on "d" we lose Rico McCoy, Dan Williams, Eric Berry, Marsalous Johnson, and Wes Brown.

Guys, our team will look very different next year! At this point I'm not confident in making any kind of predictions. There's just too many question marks.

Regarding the OL, aside from the recruits that will be coming in I look for the following guys to step up....


Dallas Thomas
Kevin Revis
JerQuari Schofield
Cody Pope
William Brimfield
Carson Anderson

I am not going to be worried about the OL. If the staff could do what they do this year, next year will be just what we will need.

I think they call it coaching up. CLK has put a pretty good exclamation point on that this season. Chill.

I've been concerned about our O-line for some time now also. Besides Douglas & Stocker, who will we have with any experience? Pope, Thomas, & Shaw have had very little PT this year. We need to recruit JCs like Cullen, otherwise just RS freshmen & recruits out of HS to fill the holes. :ermm:

Here will be our line next year assuming we get the recruits that we lead for:

OG - Shaw - Will be improved next year
OT - Douglas - Will be improved next year
OT - Thomas/Schofield/Cullen/James/Green - One will probably be an improvement or the same as this year.
OG - Pope/Brimfield/or an incoming Freshman - Maybe around the same as this year.
C - Revis/Hood - Maybe the biggest question, but we had a walkon this year so shouldn't be a big dropoff if any

Looking at it this way it shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully the year in the system and the strength and conditioning staff are getting our current OL depth ready for next year. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe the Sullins Twins, or Douglas had that much experience coming into this year and it was a new system. Hopefully, our line will be the same or slightly improved next year.

Snead will be back. I think that the perception of it being his final year revolved around early speculation that he would leave early.

McCluster, Marshay Green, Greg Hardy, 2 starting OL, and several other defensive contributors are gone though.

Another year in the system, we should see improvement even from the greenhorns. Vegas will probably set the pre-season total for how many games the Vols will win at 8, at this point I would take the under and hope to be wrong.

I think Shaw, Thomas, Schofield, Douglas, Revis, and Hood can make the foundation for a decent OL but there will be no depth except for the new guys.

I agree with the earlier post. It doesn't appear that Brimfield or Pope will ever make a real contribution. Anderson was a legacy player when he signed. I'm not sure anyone ever thought he'd play.

Not just on the O-Line, either. We are losing key contributors across the board, including D-Line, QB and RB (although we look okay there), too. 6-6 to 8-4 are realistic in my opinion.

I agree with the poster who said to "buckle your seatbelts in 2011." That is when we start to hit our stride.

T: Schoefield / Thomas
G: Shaw / Fulton
G: Green / Brimfield
C: Revis / Pope

It's only a little worse than this year...and I believe that with a full off season under Ausmus and Cregg this could turn into a very solid area for us

We are screwed next year IMO, especially if they go with the freshman at QB. I dont think theyll do to well when it comes to throwing the ball (combo of QB and OL) and will have a tough time running it. THe D shouldnt be so unlucky in the injury department, and should still be a strong unit, but 7-5 would be a nice accomplishment IMO.

Does anyone know if Josh McNeil can apply for a extra year from the NCAA since he got hurt so early? he did not play in a game than I can remember...Any good O line has to have a good center...Just a thought...

Don't forget about Mitch Browning. He has had a lot to do with the OL's success

If I had the $$$$ I would gladly hire a quartet of gorgeous women to carry Wes around in a sedan chair for the rest of his life based solely on that INT return vs. Vandy! I have several all-time favorite plays from over the years but that one is definitely on the list!

A little worse? Wow! :eek:hmy: Douglas has the only significant PT on your list.

Don't forget that we play Oregon, FLA, and LSU early next year. It may take 5 or 6 games for our offense to gel, just like this year, IMO.

It's true, but as the other poster pointed out, we had UCLA, FLA, and Auburn early this year and that didn't work out so well so we can't really have more losses out of those 3 games. And opening up with WKU didn't exactly do anything for us in the long run other than providing an easy W.

We will have a green OL and QB, but on the other hand, the receivers should provide more help than they did for Crompton early this year. Jones and Stocker will both be able to provide real targets for whoever is QB.

On defense, sure we lose some really important players and one that is nigh impossible to replace, but Jackson will most certainly be a pre-season AA and with the injuries we have had on D, the replacements won't be inexperienced.

What's the deal with Pope and Brimfield? Where are they lacking? They certainly look the part....must be either soft, slow or stupid. Just don't see how two 260 lb. walk-ons could keep these cats from any playing time at all.

Am not all that worried. I'll take an inexperienced Chaz Green and Juwan James over inexperienced Sullins twins, tough as the Sullins were. This staff has shown it can coach up these guys and a couple of these recruits might be Early Entries. Our 05 OL was supposed to be experienced and great but didn't do squat. Conversely, the GA OL year before last was more than decimated by injuries in pre-season and was playing lots of green kids but didn't miss a beat. Yeah, we may well lose an early game or two but I'd say the poster was being modest when he said we may be no more than a little worse in this unit. Rebuilding with fresh unknown individuals ... one of the reasons I love college football.
