Just got back from Montana...

Well, the students at the UofM campus, The Break, The Old Post, Taco del Sol, Iron Horse, Red's and the other places I was spoke a very different tone. I'm assuming that I didn't talk with any boosters or anyone "involved with the program," but I honestly did speak with a ton of people and this was the general consensus.

And, by the way...Cold Smoke is way better than Moose Drool.

All the hippie hangouts huh?

You probably ran into Alpha and his crew at Red's...

I really hope people weren't rude to you and calling you a hillbilly. The would be incredibly surprising to me and if it did happen, I sure it wasn't malicious. Hope you were treated well in Missoula and had a great trip.

Cold Smoke is pretty good. I fancy the brown ales over the Scotch ales myself though.

Beating up a kid half your size isn't nearly as satisfying as whipping the crap out of the bigger kid.

I meant every team. The only reason I hate Montana is because they are next. I would much rather see us play decent
teams as our OCC games. I agree with
Your post.

Hey VolNation--I was just in Missoula, Montana for a little over two weeks. I found it very interesting to listen to and talk to Montana folk about the upcoming game. After listening to the radio personalities for days saying things like, "We are going to go down and show those hillbillies what real football is all about," I began asking people around campus and town. Guys, they genuinely think that they are going to come to Neyland and beat us. And they don't even think it will be a big deal.

I asked them why they thought that and they all said that based on their preseason ranking (supposedly #4 in I-AA) and our record the last 2-3 years, they are looking at this game as very winnable for them. Of course, I horse laughed and said that there will only be one Appalachian State-type of upset in this generation. But, they insisted that it wouldn't be that big of an upset.

And this is not just one random dude in a bar. This is 20-25 people that I talked with there about the game. Just thought that I would share.

V,B!

That's odd. I was visiting my son in Montana a few weeks ago...he hangs with a lot of sports fans. All of the Griz fans we talked to were hoping Montana could keep the score within (somewhere around) 20 points. None had an opinion that they would win the game. These guys (and gals) were outdoorsmen, golfers, gamblers and hung out at sports bars.

ON EDIT-I wasn't in Missoula. Missoula must be the difference.

It's better to have them coming in overconfident than determined to pull off an upset.

They're coming to play...and will fight to the end. I don't see this a Vol blowout, but a win that will be earned. Close, but Vols win.

There's nothing wrong with them thinking their team will win. I surely don't see it happening, but I'm not gonna sit here and act like UT is some invincible #1 team that no one can beat, either. We're a 7-8 win team..we're not Alabama or Oklahoma.

If they came in here and gave us all we could handle I wouldn't be the least bit surprised..they certainly aren't the worst team UT has ever faced.

U are now "dumber" after talking to these ignorant Montana fans.

I think its fair to assume that any Montana fan with a good head on their shoulders knows that defeat is coming to them in Knox come Saturday....they can hope all they want, hell-let em pray all they want...but the Vols still win big and silence the mouths of a fanbase who really has no meaning to us as Vol fans anyway. Just a W on the schedule is all they are.

Or, just trying to fire us up into a frenzy? :) Looks like you succeeded.

So some students think their team beat an opponent? Pretty sure that happens in every college town in the nation before any game...

Some of you really need to stop worrying so much about some FCS fans across the nation...
