Before Coach Jones was hired by TN was anyone on here picking him as the new coach or thinking he may be the go to guy? Or was he a complete shock to us?

At first wasn't even thinking it would be anyone remotely like butch after a while most saw it would be butch . I hated it from the get go. I mean really a no name no big success coach who had like 2 good seasons with Brian Kelly's players at JV schools.

He definitely wasn’t my first choice, I’ll leave it at that.

I did give Butch a lot of chances but he’s shown the whole world that he isn’t capable of handling a big time program like Tennessee.

I remember my Facebook status was "we seriously just hired a coach who got beat by Dooley" that was initial reaction.

Until the presser, a co worker actually believed it to be a hoax. Sadly he's a lifelong Cowboys fan so he never got rid of Dools

We thought that we would get Gruden, Lovie Smith, Gary Patterson, Butch Davis, Chris Peterson, Will Muschamp but we ended up getting our 10th pick.
When bUTch is fired, we need to save ourselves alot of speculation and just read the 10th candidate on the list and know that it is very likely that we hire him......

Oh, I forgot that Mike Gundy was on our wish list also, but he used us to get a raise at Oklahoma State.....

I actually posted a thread listing him as the top candidate. I then said I’d bump that thread when he won a National regretting that now.

Wasnt even on the radar. Other names and the one big one that Hart effed up, Jonesy boy was a midnight surprise. All sick to our stomachs when the presser was announced.

I remember the rumor dropping first. Someone claimed a “source” of theirs specifically said “Who? You mean the guy that lost to Dooley?” then laughed hysterically.

I guess that poster’s “source” was unreliable.

If I recall the coaches on the top of the list turned the job down. There’s also rumors that Gruden was approached by boosters but not the AD. Supposedly the boosters didn’t want to pony up the money to pay the salaries for Gruden’s selected assistant coaches. And then came the announcement of Butch Jones who I had never heard of. I think a lot of people in this forum had the same reaction I had.

Yep I was going to mention that also that Charlie Strong declined the offer. That was a low point for me that coaches didn’t want the job.
