Could not agree more. Was at the South Carolina game, and I was embarrassed to have to sit through that. Come on, students - come up with something original and halfway clever.

Here are some lame suggestions -
1) give each player a golf clap (quiet, light, etc.)
2) Yell "Go get 'em, (insert player name)!"
3) Yell "For President" after each player's name is called
4) sit down and put your head down while they're being introduced

Slick Rick says that the student section needs to be the bottom 4 or 5 rows all the way around the arena. Slick Rick says it is not as imposing at TBA as other places because so many of the students are so far away. Slick Rick says put the old people behind the students. Slick Rick says this will be a better set up for the bowling alley.

I don't mind the newspaper thing, because it's about as vulgar as I care to get at the games. Where I stand in the student section is directly behind the floor-wiper kids. I try to keep myself in check.

Our students are notorious for being wishy-washy about doing anything. The fact all of them agree to do the newspaper deal (as lame as people think it is) is amazing to me.

On a side note, the student section eventually got full, but when I got to the gate at 45 min before they opened, there were MAYBE 20 people there. It took until game time for the sections to fill up. I haven't figured out yet why out students are so apathetic about sporting events at UT. Noone shows early if we're losing a few, few show early for football because they want that one last drink to make them throw up half the game, none come to baseball, women's bball, or any other sports. I understand if it's a preference issue...but most people will only show up for the 'big' games, regardless of the sport...I don't get that.

Some more Volunteer spirit is definitely needed in Knoxville. As far as students go, it seems like we were the only ones there until about 30 minutes until tip-off.

I believe our winning streak with Jacqui Pearl singing the national anthem was kept alive last night. I know we didn't lose last year with her, and so far we haven't lost a home game.

I was at the game last night and snuck into the student section for a better seat. I was just about the only one in that area making any noise. Eventually I felt like an idiot and stopped cheering cause nobody else was. The atmosphere to me was very disappointing and I thought it was really quiet and few fans were into the game. When people in my section stood up others would yell at us to sit down, and this was the student section.

I totally agree. There's no way Crews can play SF right now. He's really a player who's in "no man's land" -- not big and strong enough (or have enough moves) to play down low, and not a good enough shooter or agile enough to play SF. I don't see him ever having enough quickness or agility to play the 3, so he better get some low-post moves a-la Charles Barkley or Ron Slay or he'll never really meet his hyped expectations.

I could see J.P. (if he's any good) playing the 3, though. A slasher with the ability to pass and score -- could be dangerous next year with Lofton or J. Smith camping out somewhere around the three-point line.

And then Ramar ... who is (let's just say it) incredible! We're going to be extremely tough next year. I get fired up thinking about it!

I actually think Slick Rick's pretty funny (original, anyhow), but Slick Rick's smoking something if he think's UT will move all the donors out of their seats to let the students sit next to the court all the way around.

I'm sure David Kieth will gladly give his seat up on the second row to some dorky kid and go sit in the rafters with me ... :)

It might work in Superman's bizarro world... Then all the high rollers would be up in your seats and all you guys would be courtside. Works for me...

Since we want to understand what you have to say, it might be helpful if you could post both the Spanish and the English autotranslation from google: just cut and paste your Spanish post into translate.google.com to translate it from Spanish to English. Then you can cut and paste the English into the post. Just a thought. It's good to have Vols fans of all nationalities.

The fans are starting to come out now, there are just some marketing/event management issues that would really help the situation.

I think it would help if they would use the small curtains again, the ones that only block off the last 5-6 rows of bleacher seats.

Those help with the noise, depth perception (makes the arena look a little smaller), and would get the fans in the last 5-6 rows of the sides closer to the court on the ends...where most of the empty seats are.

Basically, why have 25,000 seats open when you pretty much know it won't be a sellout? Go with the 18-20k configuration for all games except Kentucky and Florida.

Also, I like the idea of the team running thru the T on court, but it needs tweaking. Something is missing there. My idea is to do it like they used to do at football when the locker toom entrance was at the 50-yard-line. Have The pep band make the T just left of center court where the bottom of the T is at the scorer's table. The team can run out of the locker room as normal, up the center court line, and out in front of the SpikeLee Seats. Afterward the pep band can step off to their seats.

Finally, bring back the big-@$$ Power-T door, and get some more upbeat music for intros.:good!:

I stopped by the Campus Deli on the way back to the condo. While nobody can replace the atmosphere that was Vic and Bill's, their burger is actually quite good.

Awesome post Hat.....what about being able to buy a six pack and a hoagie on rye @ Sam and Andys. NOWHERE in the country do they make steamed hoagies on rye with nothig but mustard and mayo like Knoxville. I've stopped trying.....and the Jordan Howell comment is a landmark. It shows your open propensity to have an open mind:salute:

There are a few big kids here in Chattanooga @ Grace, East ridge and McCallie, but none really seem to fit Bruces m.o. and are'nt producing like they should with there size. Bruce has come down to look,though......actually got thrown out of the E.R. by an idiot ref.
