Just a thought on today

I love the sentiment, but what about the guys that came here, often as political / religious refugees, started this place from nothing. Then their children / grandchildren had to join forces and fight back the most powerful country on earth to make this a country. Oh by the way, that same crowd that instigated that war with the Declaration followed it up with the Constitution. Those were some legendary folk.

We give them their due in July... Well we try... well some of us do...

That's true, but those men will never get their due from our drunken firework laden celebrations. I don't want to minimize what any of our soldiers have done, but the crop of men that came together to form this country were an absolutely amazing lot.

The most amazing thing, in my experience, is that the WWII generation are no different than you or I, and they are the first ones to remind you of that. I imagine that the Framers would be of similar opinion; i.e. that Man is imbued by his Creator with certain gifts of reason, honor, and intelligence, and given an opportunity and positive reinforcement, will generally do positive things with those gifts.

Gotta love the WWII generation. When called upon to defend the Republic, they by-God got things done by fighting for the man to their right and the man to their left.

I work for a European company....for the most part, the French are good folks and the ones over here enjoy the U.S. The Germans are fine fellows as well but are more hesitant to travel in the U.S. for fear of "someone remembering history" as they put it.

THANK YOU, Plano!

Interesting story: Back in the '70's, the Germans dug in their heels on English being the official language of Air Traffic Control operations worldwide. The boys in Frankfurt began directing flights in German.

This former Delta pilot was flying into Frankfurt for the first time after this switch and got really screwed up because he didn't speak German. Once he got on the ground, the German Controllers were laughing at him and said, "What? Have you never been to Frankfurt before?"

the pilot simply replied, "I have, but I was in a different Boeing."

:)

My Dad did something similar. I placed third in the state in a science fair back in '66. As it turned out, Von Braun was in attendance because he was close by for some reason. Dad managed to get a jab in about being visiting Peenemunde (sp) but at a much higher altitude.

You're right about the common man rising to the occasion. I was around all kinds of vets growing up. Good decent family men who you never would have suspected of doing things like beating three men to death with a bazooka because that was the only weapon he had.
